As a dog rescuer, you sometimes get down and dirty with the world. When it’s an innocent animal’s life on the line, you gotta do what you gotta do! For Sabine, one rescue turned into an amazing story.
Sabine saw a small dog being kept in a kennel all day long.
Kennels are fine for a few hours, but it was clear that this dog wasn’t being placed in there to sleep. The dog was tossed in the cage haphazardly and never seemed to come out for exercise or care. Instead of feeling pity and just moving on, Sabine wanted to help.
She walked up and confronted the owner!
The cute dog’s name was Mimi and had been in a cage for two years. The owner said that he had kept her locked up for that long because they had a baby and didn’t want the dog getting the baby sick. Basically, he didn’t have a good reason.
She begged to take the dog home so she could care for it.
After a month of begging, she finally was allowed to take Mimi home! Although it was a big breakthrough, little Mimi had a long way to go before she was healthy and ultimately, happy.
Mimi was terrified and didn’t know what it meant to be truly loved.
Since she spent every day in a kennel with a tarp thrown over it, she had never been held or petted. The first thing to do was get her in a new kennel to take her back to her new home. All it took was a soft towel and she was fine to go right on inside – she hadn’t felt something soft in years.
It was a night and day difference almost immediately.
She was visibly happier, just from her new surroundings. Once she was at the vet, it was time to get a check-up. From her time locked up she had an ear infection and needed a total grooming procedure. After getting her on medicine for the infection, it was time for a makeover!
They started with cutting off all the matted hair and giving her a bath.
She just stood and absolutely loved the bath that she got from her rescuers! She was so happy to be fresh and clean that she ran around the shelter like she was a puppy again! All that was left was to find her a new home.
There were some requirements that they were looking for for little Mimi
They didn’t want the owner to ever put her in a cage again. They also didn’t want Mimi to be able to run away! With those in mind, they found Suzzane! It was an immediate hit and the two fell in love. The match was made and now Mimi is living the life of a princess!
