Humans take a lot of preventive measures when a storm is on the way.

The extremely cold weather brings both room and human body temperature very low. Hence, we prepare ourselves by wearing thick layers of winter clothes, sipping a hot cup of cocoa, turning on the house heater, and many more.

We are lucky enough to have the technology and the means to keep ourselves warm during winter storms. We can easily get things warm to fight the low temperature and avoid catching a cold.

It’s just like what the famous song says, “The cold never bothered me anyway.”

Unfortunately, we are not the only species that are weak to cold.

Animals do not think like humans. Most importantly, they do not have the “technology” that we have. This simply means they are more vulnerable during extreme weather, may it be hot or cold.

They are defenseless and helpless, and their only hope is us, humans. We call ourselves the smartest species on the planet, so why don’t we prove that to these poor animals?

That’s what exactly happened in Texas.

Just recently, Texas has been devastated by freakish winter storms, and the temperature continued to dip because of the polar vortex.

This left Texans with thick layers of ice and extremely freezing cold weather.

The people were not the only ones affected.

Sea creatures like sea turtles have been struggling along with them and just like the Texas residents, they can’t handle the chill.

Reptiles, like sea turtles, are one of these animals. They can’t generate body heat, and this means they get weak when exposed to a cold environment.

It can possibly paralyze their bodies and when that happens, they will be unable to move or swim properly.

Now, imagine a sea turtle struggling to move in the middle of a vast body of water. Being reptiles, they will drown because they need oxygen.

Thankfully, Texans stepped up to help them in a big way.

Volunteers from the Sea Turtle Inc. in the town of South Padre Island put their hands together in saving as many turtles as they could.

Great men and women joined to bring these reptiles to safety.

They turned South Padre Island Tropical Travel into a temporary shelter for rescued turtles.

Thousands of sea turtles found warmth not only from the sheds of their temporary shelter but also from the kind hearts of their rescuers.

We can all help.

There is no such thing as big or small help.

Help is a help, and every kind gesture is greatly appreciated. The turtles remained in danger as long as the temperature continued to plunge.

The video below will give you a glimpse at the South Padre Island Convention Centre where the rescued turtles are being placed into custody by the rescue team and its volunteers.

Th level of care these people have shown is inspiring.

The number kept on rising, but the mighty volunteers had no plan to stop or slow down.

Animals need help.

Animal rights and animal rescue groups are all over the world. Sea turtles are not the only animals that need our help, there are many more out there.

Animals don’t only need help in winter, they need it all the time.

Fortunately, temperatures have begun increasing and the rescued turtles are being released back into the wild.

While it’s hard to pin down an exact number, it is estimated that volunteers were able to save well over 5,000 of these majestic sea creatures.

That is the power of love and kindness.
