Creatures both large and small were put on this earth.

And sometimes the large ones go out of their way to protect the smallest ones.

Cristopher Felix is one of those large ones.

The 19-year-old aspiring college student from Brooklyn Park, Minnesota was driving along near his home one day when a squirrel ran out in front of his car.

Felix saw the squirrel disappear under his car.

Next thing he knew was that it was lying on the side of the road seemingly lifeless.

Instead of feeling bad and driving off like most people probably would, Felix pulled over to see if there was anything he could do to save the squirrel.

The poor little guy was in bad shape.

Still, Felix tried to resuscitate the squirrel.

“I felt pretty bad for what happened,” Felix told The Dodo. “All I was thinking about was just to try to help the squirrel out, because I just thought that would have been the best thing. The poor squirrel wasn’t able to move, so I pick it up with my glove, set it on the grass and started to do chest compressions.”

Felix was working on the squirrel for about 10 minutes.

That’s when he attracted the attention of the local police department.

The police saw Felix’s car pulled over on the side of the road with his door open and decided to question him.

“Let’s go talk to him,” one of the officers can be heard saying on his body video camera. “Is he giving him CPR? I think it is… look at him!”

The officers then approach Felix.

“What happened?” One of the officers asked.

“I think I ran it over a little bit. Yeah, so you know try to help it out.”

The officer asked if the squirrel was squished at all and Felix said no.

Felix said that he didn’t think that his tires hit the squirrel.

“Maybe you just scared him,” the officer asked.

The officer suggested that Felix flip him over.

Felix did just that and started to pet the poor little squirrel.

“He’s coming around now,” the officer said. “We’ll put you in for a life-saving award.”

The officers had a laugh at that and their laughter seemed to rouse the squirrel.

The squirrel jumped up and took off like a shot.

“There he goes!” the officer exclaimed. “You saved his life dude.”

The police department made a fun little video out of the ordeal and posted it on Facebook advising people to bring injured wildlife to the Minnesota Wildlife Rehab Center.

“I was very happy to help out something so little. It’s a life that is saved,” he said. “I’m glad I was there to help it that day. I was super happy to help it and so were the police that saw it with me.”
