The Gold Coast is home to some of Australia’s most beautiful and iconic beaches. The sun, sand and pristine surf conditions are what cause millions of people to flock to these beaches every year.
Out in the surf, you can expect to find surfers of all ages enjoying the swell – but what you don’t expect to see is a group of Black Swans doing the same.
Black swans are a rare sight to see in the ocean, let alone in a pack enjoying the waves among locals and tourists down on the busy Kirra beach.
In the video, one brave swan decides to try his luck and catch a wave. He loves it and heads back out to catch some more. After seeing what a great time he has had, the others decide to join in.
Onlookers are palpably both stunned and excited to see such a rare sight.
This goes to show how intelligent and intuitive these wonderful creatures really are.
“It’s amazing, we’ve had Kelly Slater, Parko, and Mick Fanning surf her in Australia and now black swans,” said videographer Kel Mills.
