Stray and abandoned dogs roam around the neighborhood looking for food and borrowing the shade from the cars in the parking lot to rest. It is all for the sake of survival yet some people shoo them away through harsh means – some people will yell at dogs or even throw things at them.

When people see a stray dog on the streets, the first organization they usually call is animal control.

Government-based animal control organizations do their job by sending their team out when they get a complaint about a wild animal in the area and will attempt to catch it.

Sometimes they patrol on the streets to look for one to catch. If they think that the animal could be domesticated, they would put the animal up for adoption. However, if no one shows interest in adopting it, there would be no other choice but to euthanize it.

These animals live in a harsh world, but there are those who try to make it better.

Animal control is bombarded with these kinds of cases every day, and there are not enough pens to shelter them in. Luckily, there are non-profit organizations that help them by rescuing strays and personally look for potential owners who will house them. One good example of this is Hope For Paws rescue organization.

Someone reported a homeless dog to HFP and they decided to lend a hand.

Lilac the Husky was living at an elementary school for almost nine months. After HFP got a call from someone, they sent JoAnn Wiltz and Katie Mckittrick to the school to check it out. As they rushed to the scene, they found the dog laying on the grass. The dog took notice of Wiltz and Mckittrick and howled as she kept her distance.

They took their approach slowly since the dog was showing doubt and fear toward them. The rescuers started taking their time earning the dog’s trust by tossing pieces of cheeseburger near the dog as she was also hungry. They also made sure that she was on the sidewalk to prevent her from getting hit by a car.

They led her to a trap and she immediately surrendered after a short struggle.

As the gap between the dog and the rescuers got closer, they placed a handful of food on the concrete where they strategically positioned the snare.

The dog took a bite of the food and got baited into the trap. The Husky showed struggle, and seconds after, the dog descended to the ground. Her spirit was already broken as the humans she had encountered before were not nice to her. It was truly devastating to see her in that state.

The Husky looked hopeless as she was put in the cage. She did not interact in any way while being carried inside.

After a short ride, they immediately bathed and treated her injuries, then putting her in a safe space. However, Lilac still never responded to their kindness and kept hiding her face against the wall.
