Rescuing dogs is never easy, ask anyone working in an animal rescue facility or those who have already tried doing it and they’d say the same thing. During rescue missions, they often meet either aggressive animals or aloof ones.

The exact same thing happened to Megan Allen when she tried saving a stray dog.

She learned about the Great Pyrenees named Miles on a Facebook post, then the next day she was already on the hunt for him.

Megan wasn’t the first person who tried rescuing Miles and those who did before her all failed.

“Every time someone tried to catch him, he would run away,” Megan said.

Turns out, Miles had been homeless for an entire year in the neighborhood of a small, rural town in California. For the past months when the temperature was too high, one could only imagine how hard it must be for a homeless dog to find shelter from the harsh weather.

When Megan first saw Miles, he was in someone’s front yard resting alone. From there, she started trying to gain the dog’s trust by giving him treats, but as soon as he saw the rescuer’s leash – he immediately ran away.

After driving and searching, she found the scared dog once again in someone’s yard and even found him on a construction site. It took Megan about six to seven hours to search within the neighborhood and try to catch the homeless dog, but despite all her effort, she still failed.

The feeling of not being able to save Miles broke her heart.

She began looking for people who could help her in catching the dog and that’s when she found Danny Spanks from A SafeFurr Place Animal Rescue.

One day, they decided to execute their plan, Danny arrived at the place where the dog was usually seen. He quickly saw a “big, white dog”, it was none other than their prospect dog, Miles. Danny used hotdogs and began luring the dog to a place where they could trap him. He saw an interconnected fence and a gate, to his surprise, the place turned out to be the best place to trap Miles – a dog park.

Megan, together with her friend Courtney showed up at the place where Danny had Miles trapped for a moment. With their teamwork and patience, finally, they managed to put Miles on a leash. Their success in catching the stray dog had Megan tearing up because of too much joy.

Time to bring the big dog home.

It was such a relief to all of them, especially to Megan when they finally left the place where Miles was at for the past year.

Time to pamper the stressed dog, so their first stop was at a doggy daycare. After a little decompressing, Miles soon moved to his foster home where he met his new foster parent and other dogs.

The scared dog before was gone and Miles was back to being a dog. He began interacting with his foster mom, socializing with other dogs, and going out for walks while on a leash. Miles also loved sleeping on his big, comfy bed.
