Stories of stray and neglected dogs are heartbreaking. For animal lovers like us, we know how much these animals deserve the best possible life. We’ve seen how much love they can give their hoomans, especially if they get that same amount of love and care from them.
But it is another story when people try to beat them up. It’s mind-boggling how people have the heart to hurt such precious creatures. Some won’t even bother to give them water, food, or a safe shelter in harsh weather. Knowing if humans kick, hit, or throw rocks at animals is extremely painful.
If we were in their shoes, it would be difficult to find the strength and will to live. You might as well give up, don’t you think? And for stray animals, they could do the same just as this dog did when he felt how unwanted he was in his neighborhood.
Call from a concerned citizen
Lisa Arturo and Liza Chiarelli of Big Love Animal Rescue got a call from a concerned citizen from South Central about a neglected dog in her neighborhood. She said she saw people throwing rocks at him to drive him away.
Both Lisas were determined to save him no matter what it took. They drove to where the dog was in the hopes of finding him.
Given up on the front porch
Lisa and Lisa had a plan: to wait in the car until the dog showed up. Thirty minutes passed, and no sign of him. They drove around the neighborhood for around five hours – nada. So, they thought of coming back the next day.
Lisa told the woman who called them to place a blanket by the porch in case the dog showed up. True enough, the woman called the next day and said the dog laid down around the blankets on her porch. The duo immediately drove there.
In a bad state
They saw that the dog wrapped himself around his blanket. When they went closer, they realized how bad his state was. He had lots of wounds and scabs. They decided to take him to the vet, but he didn’t budge. It was like telling them, ‘I give up. Do what you want with me; I don’t care.’
The vet told them he had skin and eye infections. They gave him a treatment bath and got his bloodwork. He needed all the medical attention possible, but they’re hopeful that they can bring him back to good health.
His forever home
The dog’s transformation was incredible, and he looked nowhere near the dog they saw give up on that front porch. He was 100% healthy and was ready to find a loving home.
Amy and Kieran O’Donnell saw his photo and knew he was the one they were looking for. They wanted to adopt another dog as their female Rottweiler’s sibling and playmate. Their first visit turned out so well that they adopted him right away.
The dog adapted to his environment right away. His energy was far from when he was rescued; now, he was playful and such a goofball. He found a home that would love him forever, and the couple was glad to shower him with that love.
