Animal homelessness is always an issue, even in the wealthiest countries. It’s actually alarming because the number of stray animals such as cats and dogs just keeps on racking up each day. Although animal shelters exist, it isn’t just enough to cater to all of the animals that are in dire need of a roof above their heads. Still, we can’t thank all the non-profit organizations, other groups, and individuals who are stepping up to lessen the number of stray animals, especially on the streets.
These kindhearted people are working out every possible way to cure animal homelessness, one rescue at a time. And considering the rising temperature outdoors, homeless animals are more prone to sickness and hunger, thankfully, rescue heroes are also everywhere.
It all started with a phone call.
One day, LA-based animal rescuers Lisa Arturo and Lisa Chiarelli received a phone call from a concerned citizen reporting a homeless dog wandering around their area. Sadly, instead of the residents giving the poor dog food and water, some of them even tried to shoo him away from the neighborhood by throwing rocks at him.
So, on a Memorial Day weekend, the two rescuers wasted no time and drove to South Central to save the dog from his predicament. Upon arriving at the area, their initial plan was to wait for about 20 to 30 minutes until the dog shows up but it didn’t go as planned. To look for him, they decided to drive around the neighborhood, look through alleys, and asked people if they’d seen a homeless dog around.
They searched for approximately five hours but ended up empty-handed, the homeless pup didn’t show up. The persistent rescuers called it a day but asked the woman who called them about the dog to leave a little blanket on the front porch.
Luckily, the trick worked!
The next day, the woman, once again saw the homeless dog curled up in the blanket that she placed on her front porch. Again, the two Lisas duo drove to the house where the dog was last seen.
When they first saw the poor pup, he looked really weak and sick – he already lost the remaining hope in him.
“He just gave in, he didn’t care,” Lisa said. To them, it’s as if the dog was telling them, “Do whatever you want to do to me.”
We could only imagine how hard life has been on the street for the powerless-looking pooch. He already lost his will to live perhaps because of the ill-treatment that he received from people who looked at him like he was a piece of trash.
Thankfully, that’s the last day of his suffering.
When the rescuers first saw the homeless dog up and close, they were devastated by its horrible condition.
“He was so full of scabs and wrinkles that we couldn’t even see his eyes,” the rescuer said while describing the pitiful condition of the dog. “His face was so sort of sunken in that we weren’t sure how old he was.
They sure knew that the dog needed to be checked by a vet, so off they went to see one. Soon, they discovered that the dog has eye and skin infections which only fueled them to give him the utmost care that he needed.
Days went by and eventually, they earned the dog’s trust. The first sign that he finally gave in to the loving arms of his rescuers was that he started to wag his tail – that’s indeed a happy dog right there. His hair also started to grow back and it only proved how handsome he truly is.
Time to meet his new parents.
The rescued pooch was soon put up for adoption and it didn’t take that long – a family immediately fell in love with him. He was eventually adopted and blended just perfectly with the family and his new dog sibling.
Pretty soon, he was back to being a dog once again, the one who was playful, energetic, and full of life. He’s exactly what his new parents described him, “He’s such a goofball!”
