Not all people are as they seem on TV!

Simon Cowell is infamously known for his hard (rude maybe?) attitude toward people that he doesn’t view as having talent. He has a quick and sharp tongue as well, making him a viewer favorite. Who doesn’t enjoy watching someone who is horrible at singing get told so by someone in an English accent?

Simon Cowell may be mean on screen, but in his day-to-day, he is a nice guy.

Outside of his American Idol and X-Factor shows, Simon Cowell has plenty of things to keep him busy. He can also be quite generous with his money! One of the things that Cowell decided to give toward was a dog rescue.

“Dog rescue” is a gentle way to say what it really was.

Cowell gave $32,600 to Humane Society International with the goal of helping dogs who were in the meat industry. Sadly, there are places in the world where dog meat is considered a staple food. Despite their capacity for intelligence and communication, people around the world eat dog meat regularly.

The money that Cowell gave went toward shutting down these “farms.”

Humane Society International has been able to shut down 16 farms worldwide! When Cowell gave toward helping the animals, he was able to save over 200 dogs directly. More than just shutting down the farms in South Korea, he was able to help the dogs find homes and the owners of the farms find more humane jobs.

On the show, Tomson surprised Cowell by bringing out a little dog named Robin! The wonderfully cute dog was one of the ones that were rescued thanks to Simon Cowell’s gift. Seeing the little dog in front of him, things got emotional!

Sitting in the judge’s arms, it’s easy to see why he got emotional.

When something happens in a distant part of the world it is easy to dissociate from it. When you are holding a life in your hands, however, it is hard to deny it. Simon probably felt some serious emotion for the little dog he was holding in his arms.

“This is difficult for me… but it is important because, without people like you, he’d basically be in someone’s stomach,” Cowell said to Tomson. “Now you think about that, right? And dogs will give up their lives for you. They really would … and they’ll look after your kids, they put their lives in front of your kids. I’ve seen it with my dogs, and my dogs are tiny. So what you do is so important, bless you.”

30 million dogs a year are still killed for meat each year.

There will always be difficult and troublesome things that happen in the world. Thankfully, our small decisions make a difference. All we have to do is hold “Robin” in our arms to realize we don’t need to change the world, we just need to change someone’s world.
