Move over Vincent van Gogh, there’s a new brilliant abstract expressionist painter in town. This up and coming artist is a 4-year-old Shiba Inu named Hunter from Alberta, Canada. This incredibly intelligent pup is quite the artist!
Just check out these conceptual brush strokes, intertwined with a variety of neighboring colors. He’s brilliant!
Hunter’s hidden artistic talent was discovered when Hunter’s humans, Kenny Au and Denise Lo, were looking for a new hobby to teach him. The pup’s parents described him to Huntington Post as intelligent and loves to learn. Hunter enjoys completing dog puzzles and has reached the highest level in regards to agility courses.
A blank space on their wall had inspired Lo to teach Hunter his next new hobby- creating art with paint. “We had blank space on our wall and we were looking for things to put up on it. Because Hunter is such a calm, careful and responsive dog, my wife figured he’d be able to learn the brushing motions to create some kind of memento for us. We were really surprised by the results,” Au shared with Huffington Post. With Hunter’s art skills and knack for learning, they received much more than a momentum.
Hunter is all for creative expression. He loves painting and he loves the treats that come with it! He even barks and stares at us when he wants to paint, says Au. You can find several adorable videos of Hunter’s painting process on his Instagram page (@shiba.art.online). The pup patiently stands in front of a blank canvas, set up on the wall by his humans. Hunter takes the brush, dabbed in paint, in between his teeth. From there, he decorates the canvas with a few graceful brush strokes. He’ll hand the brush back in exchange for a delicious treat and then handed another brush with a different paint color. This paint-and-treat cycle is repeated until his abstract canvas painting is complete!
His owners says that they’ll support Hunter’s art career for as long as he wants to do it. When he becomes bored, they’ll move on to the next hobby. “Hunter has no problem communicating how he feels. He thinks of us more as his companions than his masters,” shared Au. “So if he thinks we are treating him unfairly, he will let us know.”
The talented four-legged painter is no starving artist. The couple started an account on Etsy shop– an online store that provides handmade, vintage and unique goods- where they sell Hunter’s masterpieces for $38.85 each. Au and Lo have connected with their local dog shelter, Second Chance Animal Rescue Society, and are donating paintings to help them raise money.
Hunter is a dog with many, many talents. Hopefully the creative pup continues his art profession to donate proceeds to help the homeless animals at their local rescue find a happy and loving home.
