Some animals sadly have hard lives. They have a lot of heartbreaking stories to share, just like this one dog who almost forgot what living is like.

Neglected her whole life, this dog felt that there is no hope left.

Dora was a stray dog who was captured and then taken to the city pound. In the pound, she never felt love and affection towards anyone. She could only probably hear the cries of the other dogs who are also devoid of their freedom in the pound. Aside from that, she was provided no proper medical care which just made living worse for her.

Fortunately, a group of rescuers came to get her before it was too late.

Howl of a Dog, a non-profit animal rescue organization in Romania took notice of Dora. They took her with them and immediately had her treated at the vet clinic. She was bathed and fed, and they promised to give her the best care until she gets adopted. However, it isn’t as easy as you think it would be.

The first few days, she was walking with her head bowed down.

Being in a depressing environment for a long time, that affected Dora to the point that it’s like she forgot what living is like. She would always walk with her head lowered and tail tucked in between her legs.

It’s as if fear, anxiety, and depression just hit her all at the same time. However, all of that changed when she finally felt the warm touch of love and affection from her rescuers.

It took her a few weeks to finally regain her trust in humans as well as getting hope for a second chance for a better life. Dora transformed into a lovable and beautiful dog in no time, and she had no problems interacting with humans as well as playing with other dogs anymore.

As her rescuers would take her out for walks, and you would see her running with that lively shine in her eyes. She let go of her bowed head and tuckered tail and finally learned to live her life with confidence.

She eventually got the life she really deserves.

She could stay at the shelter indefinitely, but the rescuers knew that it’s better if someone could take her as a family pet. Eventually, the once depressed Dora was adopted by a family in Devon county in England.

PETA reported over 600,000 street dogs in Romania in 2018, and there is no saying how many street dogs are there today. According to BBC, Romania’s street dog problem began during the country’s communist period when some people were forced to abandon their pets because they had to move to an apartment block that doesn’t allow them.

Luckily, aside from the government, there are a lot of non-profit organizations that volunteered themselves to help solve this problem.
