Meet Charley, a 13-year-old and adorable shelter cat who was staying at the Young Williams Animal Center in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Because Charley was already of older age, people weren’t as eager to adopt the cute feline. Charley was a very loving, but also shy and timid cat.
At least, that was the case until an older man decided to bring the shelter a visit. When Charley met the man, he jumped out of his box where he isolated himself most of the time and immediately went into the man’s arms. From that moment on, Charley wouldn’t let go and knew he made a friend for life.
Courtney Kliman from the Young Williams shelter told Love Meow that she couldn’t comprehend why her owners never looked for her after she was lost on the street.
“Charley was brought in as a stray in November of 2016. Why her owners never looked for her, and let her go is something we’ll never understand,” she said to Love Meow.
Charley didn’t adapt well to her situation in the shelter. She had her own little box where she spent most of her time in, but the cat was scared and very timid.
One day, Walter Bond decided to show up at the shelter. Tragically, he recently lost his mom and his cat in the same week and was seeking a new friend to keep him company.
One of the staff members wanted to go and get Charley but decided it would be best to just take him in his box so he wouldn’t get scared.
“So instead of messing with her, I picked up the box and brought it in the visitation room. Within seconds, Charley hopped out of the box, right onto the older man’s lap. It was the sweetest thing.”
When Charley sat in Walter’s lap, he didn’t let go and even rubbed her face against his.
“It was the best thing ever to see him fall in love with Charley. Every time I would ask him a question, he would say, ‘I think she knows I’m taking her home. She’s mine,” Courtney said.
On the very first day of 2017, Walter adopted Charley. Courtney even said that’s she not sure who rescued whom.
“Charley is finally gaining weight, and won’t leave our sides. She’s exactly what we needed to complete our family,” Walter said.
