Rita found him huddled behind another Chihuahua at the shelter.

Dumpy, a senior Chihuahua, was in a cell with a female Chihuahua, waiting for their human family to take them to their forever home.

The female Chihuahua had a long list of people who want to adopt her but Dumpy didn’t. And when shelter volunteer Rita Earl Blackwell saw him, she knew she needed to do something.

Rita texted A Purposeful Rescue, a non-profit organization that rescues overlooked animals and animals who need a second chance.

“We’d love to have [him],” A Purposeful Rescue replied.

The organization arranged to have Dumpy live with a foster and that foster turned out to be Hollywood actress, Kaley Cuoco.

Kaley Cuoco lives in Los Angeles, California with her husband, Karl, and their seven dogs, horses (Karl is an equestrian), bunnies, and a baby goat. And now, Kaley wanted to try to foster animals and that’s how Dumpy ended up in her house.

“I saw a picture of this dog who can’t really walk, he’s overweight, he’s old,” Kaley said. “His teeth are falling out, I’m like, ‘That’s the one I want! Can you bring – can I have him?'”

It was a challenge at the start because Dumpy was scared when he arrived at the house.

He was always hiding under blankets and pillows. And he was so quiet. They never hear him move or jump on the couch or bed. There are times when they accidentally sit or lay on top of him because they had no idea he was there.

Kaley’s friend told her that maybe Dumpy is scared someone’s gonna take him away from her home that’s why he’s hiding.

Now, they’ve resorted to placing a cat collar with bells around his neck so they can hear him.

Not only that, they showered him with so much love and attention that by the fifth day, he was running around and up and down the house already. And it felt like he was a new dog. No one would think he was already a senior dog.

When Dumpy arrived, he and Kaley quickly grew attached to each other.

Within a few days, Dumpy was already sleeping in Kaley’s bed with her and her husband. One night, Kaley was crying because she couldn’t stand the thought of giving him away. And her husband looked at her and said that no one thought Kaley was going to give him away anyway.

So yes, Dumpy has finally found his forever home. And he’s so happy he’s become a new dog. Actually, not just a dog, it seemed like he became younger and became a puppy.

Kaley did worry because she wasn’t sure if Dumpy was going to get along with her other dogs.

“Introducing a new dog into your pack is always an interesting situation,” Kaley shared. “I have found that when you just let them be dogs and say, ‘Guys, we’re all living together.’ It kind of magically becomes a natural situation.”

Now, Dumpy is no longer hiding under the covers but it’s become a cozy area for him. He’s finally found his home.
