Rottweilers, affectionally called “Rotties,” are strong and confident animals. Known to be intimidating, they’re also loyal and protective.

However, this pup takes loyalty to another level.

Contrary to what some people believe, Rottweilers adore children and are very affectionate toward their families. Their loyalty is unmatched when it comes to protecting their family members, especially the tiny ones.

Meet Jerry the Rottie.

He is the protective and loving guard dog of baby Aaru.

You’ll see him cuddling next to the cute and squirmy baby just before Aaru is swept away by her sister. Not to worry, Rottweilers may be known to be intimidating but they are gentle and loving.

Perhaps the most noticeable quality of this breed is their fierce loyalty.

Once Jerry notices his tiny human companion is nowhere in sight he is on the move.

“He woke up like wait a damn minute where’s my tiny human?” A YouTube commenter states.

Not to worry Jerry, Aaru is safe and sound getting a bath.

Jerry hurries outside to find baby Aaru getting bathed in a kiddie-sized pool. He keeps close watch by the pool as the baby gets cleaned up then follows Aaru back to the bedroom.

Finally, he gets to spend some quality time with his favorite baby.

Baby Aaru is moved from room to room while Jerry is running right behind him wagging his big fluffy tail, a physical feature not common for Rottweilers.

However, don’t sneak up on him.

Rottweilers are strong and committed to protecting their families, especially tiny ones like baby Aaru.

The daughter tests Jerry’s reaction skills by playfully sneaking in and trying to tickle the baby, and she is greeted by a loud ferocious bark.

Later, she tries another test and is greeted by a growl.

Jerry is serious about protecting his tiny human! The common purpose for Rottweilers has mainly been for protection but, their purposes have changed over time.

Rottweilers were originally used to herd cattle for butchers.

Akc states that the centuries after the empire’s collapse, the Roman drover dogs found work in the cattle town of Rottweil.

It was here, moving herds from pasture to market and protecting all concerned from bandits and rustlers along the way, that they earned the name Rottweiler Metzgerhund or Butcher’s Dog of Rottweil.

Additionally, evident by Jerry’s long thick tail, large head, it is likely that he is a German-bred Rottweiler.

According to pethelpful, a tailed Rottie is often a sign that the Rottweiler may be coming from Germany since, in this country, the practice of tail docking has been banned since 1999.

His calm and confident demeanor shows that it’s also possible that he was bred correctly.

A well-bred Rottweiler will be calm and confident.
