Animal abuse – no matter for what reason – is never the right answer. Yes, pets can misbehave sometimes and sometimes need to be disciplined in public, but it should always be done in a positive manner of redirection instead of physical cruelty.

A woman who was minding her own business on the subway in Toronto came across a brutal owner who abused her dog by striking it repeatedly, yelling excessively and she even seemed to try and bite him.

The woman filmed a couple of minutes and posted it online on YouTube, where it quickly amassed over two million views. “Let’s make her famous”, the video title reads, to raise awareness and make sure that this dog wouldn’t have to be near his owner ever again.

“It happened today, Aug 4, 2017, on TTC. I just finished work and got on TTC at Bloor-Yonge station. This trash non-stop hits her dog bites and pulled its hair. I was so furious to see her abuse her dog. After few mins, a man walked to her and asked her to stop, meanwhile, a man walked to driver’s room. The whole train stopped, more than 3 TTC staff walked to her and then she got off the train. Someone like her should never own a dog or a pet,” Roxy Huang posted.

One of the passengers immediately went to the driver to get the train halted and get emergency services on the scene. When the subway stopped, a man is seen in the video saying “You’ve got to stop hitting your dog.” The woman was clearly not impressed, as she threw a couple of expletives at him afterward.

The Toronto Police Department arrived, but couldn’t charge the brutal dog owner due to lack of evidence.

“The dog was returned to the owner by the police as the police had no grounds to remove the dog from the owner under the law. If the dog is not in immediate distress … they wouldn’t have grounds to keep it,” Alison Cross of the Ontario Society For The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (OSPCA).

However, this video that made its way online proved to be enough evidence for the Police Department to file a report with the Ontario SPCA. The woman was located the day after and the dog was seized and rescued out of the hands of his brutal owner.

The OSPCA later charged with one count of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal and the 37-year old woman was arrested with the assistance of the Toronto Police.

The rescued dog is now being treated and taken care of by the OSPCA animal center, and now finally has regained his smile.
