Layla is an adorable smiling pitbull puppy. She even has her own Instagram page called Layla the smiling pup. So, why is she so popular, you might ask? Well, Layla was found last summer in a busy street and was taken to Beaumont Animal Care in Texas. She was seven months old at the time and she was very frail and shy.

But when Layla saw how everyone around her was so nice and caring, she bega to relax and trust people. So much so, that she flashed her pretty little smile at them! Look at her!

She finally felt safe and was overcome by a new and foreign feeling of peace and security. Dogs are able to feel a wide range of emotions, even when they’re kept in shelters.

Layla was found running through street traffic all by herself, so you can imagine the terror that this little girl must have gone through. Poor baby.

Rachel Barron said the following about her encounter with Layla,

“When I began to speak in a baby tone kind of voice she absolutely loved it. She began wagging her tail and then boom, the famous smile. That is when I pulled out my phone to get it on video. It was too cute not to share.”

The staff took very good care of the little sweetheart and after Barron posted her video, adoption inquiries started rolling in. That dazzling smile made a handful of hearts melt right away.

Luckily for Layla, the perfect family for her stopped in for a visit after seeing the adorable video of her smiling. Nicole Toney and her husband knew right away that Layla was the perfect dog for them. Which makes sense when you consider that this husband and wife already have three rescue dogs and two cats!

Everyone knew that Layla would be a great addition to the family.

Unsurprisingly, this adorable smiling puppy quickly warmed up to her new owners.

After a few meetings and a couple of cuddle sessions with Nicole, they were given the final ok to bring the sweet smiling pup home for good. It was practically destiny.

Layla bonded with the other dogs right away, running around and playing with them a ton.

“Lady immediately wanted to be near Layla.” Toney said, “Lady was a mom and had just given birth when she was rescued, and so she was really drawn to Layla.”

Toney adds, “She’s really settling so well. She’ll cuddle right next to my husband’s face and fall asleep. She’s such a sweetheart and we noticed she even smiles when she’s asleep.”

One of the dogs, Sadie, didn’t seem too thrilled at the idea of having a new member in the family. The two dogs ignored each other for a few days until suddenly, they were hanging out together, then started doing things together, and eventually became friends.

You would think that having once lived on the streets alone and vulnerable as a young puppy would make it difficult for Layla to adapt to her new home, but her immediate warmth is a testament to her strength.

Fast forward six months and Layla isn’t such a little puppy anymore. She’s a big girl now, but I don’t think she’s forgotten where she came from, mainly because Layla still flashes her grateful little smile much to the delight of everyone around her.

We think that there will likely be many more cuddles and smiles in the future for this family.
