Man saves pit bulls no one wanted – they return the favor when intruders break in
Robert saved the two unwanted dogs when no one else would. Little did he know the two loyal dogs would soon return the favor.

Dogs are supposed to be man’s best friend. They’re there to cuddle with you when you’re sad, beg you to go for walkies when you’ve eaten too much dessert, and protect you from harm when there’s some really bad juju going down in your neighborhood.

But sometimes dogs don’t live up to the reputation that they’re known for. Just ask Robert McGowan, who thought he was rescuing a couple of regular pitbull puppers when he decided to adopt them from the local shelter.

Then this mess happened to his face sometime after he brought them home.

Ellabelle and Ladybug are just about two of the cutest pitbulls you could ever lay your eyes on.

But because their breed is “known” for being dangerous and aggressive, absolutely no one wanted to have anything to do with them.

However, Robert saw a gentle sweetness in them. In fact, these doggos probably would have found their forever home ages ago if people had bothered to take notice!

As he explained to The Dodo:

“They’re very docile and timid. They’re not aggressive at all.”

All Ellabelle and Ladybug wanted was some good old fashioned love and a human BFF to hang out with. But instead, they were neglected and abused early on in life.

Sadly, life wasn’t exactly a walk in the dog park when they arrived at the shelter.

Because of how they look on the outside, these two rescues were pretty much resigned to being the lepers of the doggy world.

That is, until Robert came along and gave them a second chance. In return for giving them a forever home, these two amazing fur babies gave their new master something he would never forget.

One night when Robert was sitting next to his car in the garage, he made the fateful mistake of leaving the garage door up. Out of nowhere and without warning, four strange men rushed at him and started attacking!

“One just punched me straight in the eye. I was knocked off my chair.”

The assailants demanded the keys to his car, and Robert, who was dazed and confused from getting pummeled in the head, told the robbers that the keys were inside the house.

What he didn’t tell them was that he had a couple of ladies in the house that would be more than happy to meet them at the door and take care of their needs.

As soon as one of the men opened the door, Ellabelle and Ladybug were ready and waiting to spring into action.

“They chased them out. My girls ran into the garage and stood over me. They stood there barking, making it clear that no one was going to hurt me anymore. The four people took off.”

Robert’s two new BFF’s had saved the day – and his life!

Although Robert suffered a mean black eye in the attack, nothing was stolen, and more importantly, he didn’t come into any more harm.

That was, of course, all due to the bravery of his rescue pups! When Ellabelle and Ladybug weren’t being couch potatoes, they were more than willing to step up and become the ultimate doggy heroes.

That’s not exactly the reputation that most people would attribute to this breed. But this just goes to show that a dog’s true nature is more than just skin, or in this case, fur deep.

“They are rescues. Unwanted dogs. They saved my life. Please consider adopting a rescue. They might save your life too.”

Robert knows that his love for Ellabelle and Ladybug is returned by more than tenfold by his fur babies. But, he hopes that their bravery will inspire others to adopt dogs in need. There are plenty of shelter pups out there who would be more than willing to save your life in exchange for saving theirs.

Oh, and by the way, Robert did reward Ellabelle and Ladybug for being such good girls.

“They got toys and treats. They got good stuff.”
