Look at this happy, healthy dog. You can’t tell just by looking at her, but Bella started her life off in a much gloomier way. In fact, she spent many years wasting away in a dog pound. That is, until a wonderful dog rescue company called “Howl of a Dog” came to her rescue.
Before Bella found a home, she was in desperate need of help.
Based in Romania, Howl of a Dog look far and wide for dogs that need to find homes.
She had matted fur and looked well and truly unkempt. She had never known human affection or positive interaction, so the fact that she was we receptive to her rescuers shows just how in need she was of a helping hand. Who even knows how many people passed this wonderful dog up before these helpful angels came to Bella’s rescue?
What’s remarkable about this rescue is not so much how she behaved…
…But actually how she didn’t behave. That is to say, that before she even got to the veterinary clinic where she was being taken to, she fell asleep in the lap of her rescuers.
In the pound she was visibly wasting away.
She didn’t seem excited to see new people, nor did she react in any way at all except to give a few timid licks of the team’s hands. When a dog goes so long without seeing humans as allies and friends, they are possibly not conditioned to treat us as such.
So when she fell asleep with her helpers, it displays a new level of trust.
She seems to understand that she is in good hands, and is ready to go with them…after a quick snooze!
It’s also rare that a dog that has spent so much time without human affection can allow so much contact.
Often dogs who see most humans as strangers can be aggressive or standoffish around new people, and so care must be taken when approaching them for the first time.
But not only is she capable of receiving affection…
…but she wants to dole it out too! She seems remarkably at home resting on her saviour’s lap and seems to want to offer cuddles to the people as well. The real question is: will she ever find a forever home, or will she still struggle to find people who will give her a chance?
Now, Bella has a home in Germany, where is is well loved and taken care of.
Her new owner wrote to Howl of a Dog, to update them on her situation and condition.
“I think she feels very comfortable and happy here. She is very affectionate towards me and we cuddle a lot, but she is also a bit of a clown – she makes me laugh every day!”
So as you can see, she had a lot of love in her to give, she just needed people in her life to give it to.
