Poor Gandalf found himself homeless at age 4 when his parents got divorced. They, for some reason, felt they could no longer care for him after they split up.

Thankfully, he was taken in by a foster family.

Before he knew it, a woman who lived on his street offered to adopt him. She had always wanted a cat and the chance for her to get one finally presented itself.

“I felt deep for him because just that fall my own parents had just separated,” Gandalf’s new owner, Melissa Losier, told The Dodo. “I needed him just as much as he needed me.”

Gandalf and Losier hit it off right away.

Gandalf basically follows his mommy around all day and loves to cuddle with her. In fact, he’s big on cuddling with just about everyone he meets. One thing he isn’t big on is toys.

“He is a very chill guy and very well-mannered,” said Losier. “He is not a fan of many toys. I’ve bought so many, and not much interest from him.”

One thing he is interested in is naps… a lot of naps.

Mom, however, still felt bad about him not being interested in toys. So she decided that she’d try to get him interested in toys by combining a toy with one of his favorite interests.

So, she made him a toy house for napping.

“I thought of the idea to make a cute little napping area for him,” said Losier. “He likes the cat post and a bed I had purchased and I thought, ‘Why not make a little hideout?!’”

Loiser started looking up DIY cat houses on the internet and found an easy design. She grabbed up some supplies for her build and made a cute little cat house within four hours.

She added a cozy blanket to the cat house and presented it to Gandalf. He absolutely couldn’t believe his eyes.

The face he made when he saw his new kitty house was absolutely priceless.

“I put a couple treats inside for him to warm up inside his own little mini home,” Losier said. “Sure enough, he loved it and my hard work paid off.”

Now Gandalf spends hours just snoozing away in his little cat house, which is the closest thing he has to a toy.

Regardless, that piece of cardboard keeps him entertained for hours and hours.

It truly makes Gandalf happy. He absolutely loves his little hideaway.

“A simple box may have done just the same, but why not make it cute, right?” Losier said.
