Seeing homeless animals is always a heartbreaking experience. Knowing that they probably had homes at one point and were abandoned really pulls at the heartstrings! For many, they are so generous that an abandoned animal is never left in its sorry state.

Three Californians came across a little fluffball of a cat.

Baby animals are the most at risk when it comes to survival after abandonment. Thoa, Thi, and Tram Bui were pulled into a situation involving a homeless kitten in 2016. They never expected it to turn out the way it did!

After finding a 3-week-old kitten in San Jose, California, the three humans took the little cat home.

When they found the kitten, she was in a sorry state. Malnourishment had set in and the cat was extremely gaunt and lethargic in an attempt to conserve the little energy it had left. The cat, if left in its state, was days away from death.

Thoa decided to name the kitten Rosie.

Once you name something you get attached! After the three girls named the little kitten they knew that it held a special place in their hearts. They were hopeful that the kitten was going to pull through and make it to a healthy life.

One they brought the kitten home, they got to work to save its life.

They offered the cat food but it refused to eat. They knew that the little creature needed it but for some reason, she wouldn’t eat. They knew that the cat needed to eat or it wasn’t going to make it much longer. All of a sudden, Thoa had an idea to maybe get Rosie to eat.

Thoa has a Siberian Husky named Lilo.

Lilo is a gentle spirit and is always a calming presence on animals and humans alike. “Maybe,” Thoa thought, “the little kitten just needs something to make her a bit more comfortable.” After all, we don’t know how this kitten was treated by other humans it had encountered.

Once the cat was introduced to Lilo, Rosie curled up an immediately fell asleep against the furry friend.

Lilo knew exactly what to do and became the mom that Rosie never had. Thoa explained:

“She cuddled her and comforted her until she was better and ready to finally drink from a bottle,”

Finally, the little cat was eating! This was a massive success for the whole family. At one point, the little kitten even tried to suckle on the dog, thinking she was her mom.

For Thoa, this is when she knew that the relationship between the cat and dog was going to be special.

Lilo is fixed and never had her own puppies. Maybe this was just a chance for her to express the motherly instinct that she never used.

“Lilo has never had puppies of her own, and never will. But motherhood may just be her calling, I think she knew that Rosie needed her.”

After being raised with Lilo and the pack, Rosie is an interesting cat.

With hilarious behaviors like going for walks and playing outside, Rosie seems to fit in well with the three huskies and their family.

“She thinks she’s more a dog than anything,”

#Ad A throwback to our little adventure cat then and now. We are so amazed how far Rosie has come since she came to us as a sickly kitten. Rosie's rescue was special in many aspects, including her bond with Lilo. For her humans, the biggest impact it made in our lives was the inspiration to establish a neonatal kitten rescue, @minicattown , to save more kittens just like Rosie. We're partnering with @purinaone_us to raise awareness for rescue pets, because we believe the only thing they lack is the opportunity to shine. We want to bring the spotlight to those in need, and as a champion for shelter and rescue animals, Purina ONE has been dedicated to helping reduce the number of pets waiting for their forever homes for over 15 years. We are excited to share in their mission and contribute to their efforts in the adoption of shelter pets across the country.
