The World Animal Awareness Society has one noble goal: to make sure all stray dogs are rescued. They’re active in Houston and the animal awareness group even dubbed Houston the “Stray Dog City” The rescuers spend their days roaming the streets to see which dogs they could help and give a better life.
There are way too many stray dogs and animals that wander the streets without food or at risk of getting hit by a car. Many of these dogs also have severe medical issues and are in urgent need of a veterinarian. The World Animal Society Awareness crew spotted a calm and silent German Shepherd on a crowded street in Houston back in 2014. The rescuers also noticed that the poor pup was starving and searching all the garbage cans in the area for food. It was a terrible sight to behold.
The team intervened immediately and tried their best to help the dog out.
Some stray dogs can be quite aggressive toward their rescuers and don’t get along well with humans, but that certainly wasn’t the case with this adorable German Shepherd.
Rescuer Kurt Guerdrum grabbed some dog food from his car and put some on a plate for the dog to eat. The German Shepherd seems to realize that the rescuers are there to help and gladly eats food from the plate, albeit somewhat cautiously.
You can tell that the dog hadn’t eaten properly in a long time and it didn’t take long before the plate was completely empty.
Of course, the rescuers wanted to take the dog in so that they could keep caring for her and get her checked out by a vet. Kurt then took a leash and even though the dog was a bit surprised to have someone put a leash on her, it seemed as if the dog allowed Kurt to put it on and take her to a safer place. The rescuers named her Anna and made sure that she would get all the attention she deserved.
The rescuers then proceed to give her some more food and got her in the car safely. It’s amazing how well this stray dog responded to her rescuers, without any aggression at all. One of the bystanders asked another rescuer what they were going to do with the dog. She said that Anna would be vetted and would then be put up for adoption.
Recently, the same organization devoted their time to saving dogs after Hurricane Harvey. For more information about the World Animal Awareness Society, check out their website over here.
