Rescued and injured – these two things can be difficult for a shelter dog.
Tony was rescued by the Perfectly Imperfect Pups, and they soon noticed his disability. They did not specify what happened, but Tony’s left front paw was just dangling.
It seems that the 1-year-old pup can’t put his weight on it, and so it’s difficult for him to move around and be excited about the world.
Nicole from the Perfectly Imperfect Pups took him under her wing.
She drove him to a vet so they can check his condition. All the while, Tony has been very affectionate. He’s friendly and he tries to get as close as he can to people despite his injury.
Nicole knew that this kind of love has to go somewhere. This was the kind of love that needed a family and a place to grow.
At first, they placed a splint on his legs.
This will allow his leg to remain steady as he moves around. Meanwhile, Nicole contacted a veterinarian to see if Tony’s leg can be operated on.
Fortunately, a clinic took on Tony’s case. With his purple cast on, Tony excitedly waited for his doctor to come.
For some dogs, veterinary service can be such a hassle. Not for Tony, however. As soon as the staff picked him up, he was all smiles and kisses.
Nicole was worried at first because a staff approached her right after the operation.
It would be heartbreaking to know if there are any other complications or if his leg is entirely inoperable.

However, the vet tech approached her for a different reason. Stephanie, one of the clinic’s staff members, assured Nicole that Tony was doing amazing.
She talked to Nicole personally because she and Tony had a connection.
She offered to foster Tony, which was a boon for Nicole. As much as she wanted to take Tony with her, there was just not enough space.

Stephanie was more than happy to help out. She drove Tony to his new temporary home where she introduced him to her 12-year-old dog Anya.
Anya and Tony became best friends pretty quickly.
Stephanie shared that Tony’s first agenda in the house was to take Anya’s toys. The older dog won’t give up without a fight, though, and tug of war became their favorite pastime.
Over time, and as Stephanie and her husband Casey helped Tony recover, both of them bonded well with the foster. At that point, they both knew what they wanted – a failure.
Stephanie opted to fail the foster, which meant the foster dog will be adopted by the foster family.
Nicole and Stephanie were over the moon with these developments. But they weren’t the only ones celebrating. After the papers were signed, Stephanie and Nicole decided to set Tony off his leash.
Through their care and love, Tony healed amazingly well.
And for the first time after a long while, both of them watched as Tony zoomed around the shelter’s enclosure and conquered the Great Green Yonder.
Tony is finally free, finally loved, and finally home.
