Raccoons are omnivorous mammals that don’t just stick to their chosen dens in the woods. Aside from forests, marshes, and prairies, they’ve gotten used to the city life, too. While raccoons typically snare their food in the water, they’re also rather skilled in getting fruit and plants from human gardens and farms. Think quick swiping and bounding away.

So how do they survive in concrete jungles filled with people? They feast on mice and insects, and even open garbage cans for food.

Raccoons have learned to adapt so well to urban areas that experts say these ring-tailed creatures are now more common in cities than in the country. So don’t be alarmed if you see one scurrying behind a wall or peeping from a garbage bin as you make your way home. Raccoons are active throughout the day, usually scavenging for food.

The only time you should be alarmed is if you spot a raccoon behaving rather aggressively, or oddly (staggering, erratic wandering, oblivious to noise and the environment).

In spring and summer, raccoons fill themselves up to store up body fat. Then they retreat to their dens in the winter for that oh-so-satisfying deep sleep. Perhaps it takes more effort to find enough food in the city but unsurprisingly, these highly adaptable creatures seem to be managing just fine.

Not everyone is particularly fond of the bandit-masked animal but there’s no denying that it’s got some charm to offer, too.

Because raccoons have long fingers and what can be described as dexterous paws, reaching for something isn’t as difficult.

So when this raccoon spotted a tasty treat on top of a table, it didn’t hesitate to go for it.

From its position on the ground, the hungry mammal used both paws alternately as it batted at the treat. It didn’t waste any time eyeing the treat or looking around first, like most animals tend to do. This raccoon just instantly made a grab for it.

It didn’t take long for the hungry raccoon to get its paws on the treat.

Just a few swipes here and there, and finally, success!

You can also guess what happened just as quickly. That’s right. The eating.

Immediately, the raccoon popped the treat in its mouth, all while gazing at the camera innocently. This prompted viewers to comment on the cuteness of it all, with some even saying the animal deserved more treats!

Then, as if to shy away, the raccoon retreated to a spot under the table, perhaps to scarf down what was left of the treat in peace.

Or to make its exit because, well, mission accomplished.
