Pet owners will tell you that rescue animals are often the most prone to shyness. These pets take time to adjust to new homes and humans, but when they do, the results can be magical. Take the story of Anya, a cute black rescue cat who fell in love with her human and learned how to fly.

How Samantha met Anya

Many animal lovers are fond of opening their home to rescue animals. This small act is said to be a great way to help socialize abandoned pets so they can be happy when permanent homes are found. This is what Samantha wanted to do when she welcomed homeless pets into her home.

She expected to foster dogs or puppies, but was instead sent a young shy cat named Anya.

She wasn’t sure if she could do it, but…

Samantha admitted to having her misgivings. She “was never a cat person”, but she knew how important it was to help homeless animals in need. But her misgivings went away when she formed a near instant bond with the feline.

Samantha gave Anya plenty of room to roam and didn’t demand anything out of the poor cat. Her patience was rewarded as Anya grew braver and explored the home more as she came out of her shell. Samantha knew that Anya had fallen for her when something amazing happened.

One day, when Samantha least expected it…

One day, while Samantha’s back was turned, Anya climbed up to a table.

While Samantha was preparing a treat, the cat tested the table to make sure it was nice and sturdy, then with one incredible leap, she soared through the air and landed on Samantha’s shoulder. This surprised Samantha and made her day.

Over time, the duo grew closer

Over the next few weeks, Anya proved that this wasn’t a one time thing.

Whenever Samantha turned her back, Anya would always be there to leap up on her back, especially when Samantha had treats to share. Anya would race through the home to greet her favorite human and Samantha fell in love.

How Samantha turned things around

Samantha had this to say about Anya’s growing place in her life:

“I gave her time to trust me, I had a feeling that she would open up to me, and then all of a sudden, she just jumped on my shoulder.”

When the shelter asked for Anya back, Samantha said…

The shelter called some time later to let Samantha know that a permanent home had been found for Anya. But at that point, Anya had already become a major part of Samantha’s life. So she told the shelter that “She’s my cat” and that was that. Anya has become a part of the family.

When asked about her choice, Samantha said:

“To watch her transform from this shy cat that was so scared to someone who runs this house and practically runs me, Taking care of her helps me take better care of myself.”

The flying kitty and her favorite human

Anya was last seen on Instagram celebrating her love for her favorite human with flying cat tricks. Samantha can even talk Anya into making the leap on command, which is an incredibly adorable image. So this cat can now soar for treats and love.
