Firefighters really are some of today’s heroes. They risk their lives every day to keep other people safe, and we have so much gratitude for the amazing job that they do. Because of their high-risk job, when we came across a story about a firefighter who rescued a dog, we immediately presumed that the dog had been pulled from a burning building. But in actual fact, she had just been sadly abandoned.
The little dog tugged on the firefighter’s heartstrings, so much so that the next day he went to visit her at the local animal shelter.
It’s safe to say that she was happy to see him, and the whole adorable moment was captured on video for us to watch! If this doesn’t cheer up your day then nothing will.
Firefighter Mike Thawley was out at work with Fire Station 14 in Sacramento when they came across a sick pit bull who had been carelessly abandoned out in the rain.
He quickly took her to Front Street Animal Shelter to get checked over, and the little pit bull soon settled into life at the shelter. She really left a pawprint on Mike’s heart, and the next day he decided to visit the shelter where she was living.
The sweet moment was caught on video and shared onto Rumble, where it already has over 889,000 views. You can see that the dog, who is named Chunkie, instantly recognizes Mike as he walks towards her kennel.
Her tail begins to wag a-mile-a-minute and she puts her paws up onto Mike as he squats down to pet her. She even tries to give him lots of kisses!
In the next clip, Mike is holding Chunkie as one of the volunteers slips the most adorable pink sweater over her head, possibly to help keep her comfortable with her injuries. In a sweet moment, Mike tenderly kisses the top of the pit bull’s head as if she’s his own baby!
You can clearly see the incredible bond that has already formed between the pair.
All too soon, Mike’s visit has come to an end – but Chunkie doesn’t want him to leave! As he walks to the exit, the sweet little dog follows him and looks up curiously as if to say, “where do you think you’re going?” She seems to have chosen Mike as her new dad – but does he feel the same way?
He does!
As the video comes to an end, a statement from the shelter reads:
“Thank you Sacramento fire department! Firefighter Thawley is heading home to talk to his family about fostering Chunkie! Stay tuned…”
Although no further updates were provided, we’d like to believe that Mike’s family agreed to adopt Chunkie. After all, who could say no to someone that cute? We’re so thankful for the amazing work that these firefighters do every day, and we hope that Chunkie got the happy ending she deserved.
