We all know that life isn’t fair. Only those who live with incredible privilege can live with such a philosophy. From the animal kingdom to human existence, we all have things that we wish never happened or weren’t true. The wonderful thing about life, though, is the fact that we can do something about our situation. One little puppy was born with the short end of the stick – only he doesn’t let that stop him from succeeding!
We can learn a lesson from this little guy’s tough mentality.
We all know that a dog can have some serious resilience. They are endless optimists and aim to please their friends (usually us humans). They won’t quit until they succeed! Duke is a puppy who shows this mentality perfectly.
Duke is a little dog who was born with some difficulty ahead of him.
Duke was born with physical deformities that stopped him from walking as a puppy, as most others do. The little guy was adopted from the Broward County Animal Care and Adoption facility located in West Palm Beach, Florida. Little Paws of Love were the ones to adopt him and were able to help him in a special way.
The puppy wasn’t able to walk due to serious leg deformities.
The leg deformities forced his front legs to bow out. They were so twisted that the dog wasn’t able to walk when he was born and had to go on a long journey to success.
Kristen Light was the volunteer who rescued him.
For many dogs like Duke, it’s a rough journey for deformed animals in shelters. With this in mind, Kristen adopted the pup and was determined to help him walk. After some time, training, and donations, Little Paws of Love was able to see a victory in the story of little Duke.
Captured on video, we get a chance to see the progress that Duke has made.
In potentially one of the cutest videos of all time, we see the little pup standing at the back of a long hallway. All of a sudden we hear people cheering the puppy on and encouraging him. Duke launches into action and starts wobbling his way down the linoleum to his friends!
Getting distracted by smells, the pup is sidetracked, but that’s not important.
The wonderful thing is that Duke is walking! After some practice, training, and grit, the little guy finally is able to walk and run like the other pups. You can tell that he has the deformity, forcing him to walk a bit differently than others. The wonderful thing, though, is that the little guy gained a lot of independence with his new walking ability.
We can all learn from little Duke.
Duke is a perfect example of a little guy who was down on his luck from the start of life. The beautiful thing is that he had the help of some people who cared and was able to do what he never could do. This wonderful little story can be true for all of us. Do we have the grit to push on and do we have what it takes to sacrifice for others?
