Rescuing animals can take a mental toll. Seeing them in pain and scared isn’t always an easy thing and you never know which ones will make it and which ones won’t. For the story of one stray puppy, the traumatic beginning thankfully had a happy ending.
Stray Rescue of St. Louis got a call that a dog was out in the snow.
Back in the winter of 2019, Stray Rescue of St. Louis was made aware of a dog who was in desperate need. They didn’t have much information on the dog so when they arrived they didn’t know what to expect.
Documenting the entire thing, they went to see the dog.
When they arrived at the call location, they could clearly see the dog sitting on the snow under a light pole. It wasn’t just a dog, but a small puppy was all alone and clearly not ok.
A puppy like this one can’t survive out in the cold for long.
Most dogs aren’t bred to withstand the cold and this pup was no different. The rescuers didn’t know how long he had been out there so time was of the essence. As they approached him, however, things took a turn.
As the rescuer got closer, the pup started to whine.
Usually, this means that a dog needs help or it’s afraid. In this case, both were true. Instead of quieting down when the rescuer got closer, the pup started wailing.
The volume of the cries is disturbing.
Hearing the poor pup scream and wail as he does is truly heartbreaking. All it took was a human coming near him to cause such anxiety. Knowing that, this pup was surely neglected and humans didn’t mean “friends” to him.
As the woman gets closer, the cries reach a peak.
Finally, as she is as close as she can be, she slips a little lead around the pup’s neck. In the dog’s mind, this is probably the worst thing that can happen – little does he know that things are about to look SO much better for him!
Once the pup realizes that this woman isn’t hurting him like he’s used to, things drastically changed!
Soon, the pup was sitting with his head on her hand, getting some MUCH needed love. He was shivering and had infections across his body, especially in one area where he was injured. He also had paraphimosis on his genitals and was clearly in pain.
After he learned that this woman wasn’t going to hurt him, he was able to go into her car!
The process was a slow one, but this little pup would slowly learn to trust humans again. Naming him Weezer (someone must be a fan), the shelter started looking for a family who would love to love on this little pup.
Finally, they did!
After his cried broke the hearts of people all across the world, he finally found a home that was willing to love him fully. They even posted a Facebook update of him with his new siblings, too!
