We’re not sure what possesses people to bring their pets up in appalling living conditions, but sadly, this is something that is still happening to this day. Most people bring a pet into their lives to complete their home, and the excitement of picking out a cozy new bed and some new toys for your pet makes the whole thing all the more special.
But some people simply aren’t kind to their pets.
Confusingly, some people only seem to decide that they don’t want a pet after they’ve already taken on the responsibility, and this is often how abuse, neglect, and abandonment begins. This seems to be the case for this next story, where a terrified puppy was found in the most awful living conditions.
Luckily, the little dog was rescued and is now on his way to a happy life, but we’ll never understand the people who subject animals to such abuse in the first place.
“He’s just a puppy!”
When a tiny puppy was discovered in a building filled with trash and rubble, the Good Samaritan was quick to call Stray Rescue of St. Louis. The area was used by the neighbors to dump their unwanted belongings, and was a dirty, unsanitary place to live. When the rescue team arrived, they found the terrified dog hiding behind a pile of junk, with wounds covering his face.
“He’s just a little puppy! His eyes are messed up and he has puncture wounds on his face. Despite what he’s been through, he is so happy,” Stray Rescue wrote on Facebook. “He is safe now.”
Despite being clearly nervous, the little dog seemed to know that he was being rescued- and as rescue worker Donna approached the pup, he began to wag his tail.
A terrifying upbringing.
Rescuers worked to piece together how the dog- who they named Chowder- had ended up in such a terrible place. The Good Samaritan that had made the call mentioned that some people in the neighborhood were involved in dog fighting, so there was a strong possibility that little Chowder had been used as a bait dog. As a tiny puppy, we can’t imagine how terrifying that would be.
The small dog was overcome with emotions.
The minute that rescuers carried Chowder in the car, he buried his face into Donna’s arms, clearly overcome with emotions. He must have been so relieved to get away from his poor excuse for a home.
“He just buried his face in our arms on his freedom ride,” Stray Rescue wrote. “The thought of anyone treating him bad makes us so weepy. This angel needs us. We’re so grateful to the callers for taking action.”
Chowder is now recovering in the shelter, before he will begin his happy new life. Being a puppy as cute as himself, we imagine that it will be no time at all before he is adopted. As for his original owners, we hope that they come to the realization that they’re not fit to look after animals.
