What would you do if you saw a bear pop out of your dumpster?
A school principal was startled after seeing the bear’s head coming out.

Principal James Marsh of Zela Elementary School in Nicholas County, West Virginia, saw a bear in the school vicinity.
He decided to lock the dumpster as a precaution.
Though it is not uncommon to see wild animals roam around some communities, people would still get surprised and run away when they see one.
The principal got startled!
On the morning of May 1st, Marsh went outside to unlock it when the bear popped out!
The CCTV footage showed the surprised principal running away as soon as he saw the bear’s head.
“I think the bear was as scared of the principal as the principal was [of] the bear,” Nicholas County Schools Superintendent Donna Burge-Tetrick said in a local news agency.
The bear climbed out and immediately ran into the nearby woods.
Burge-Tetrick also stated after watching the video that the bear was able to enter and exit the dumpster quite a few times even when it was locked.
It also appeared that the bear slept there the whole time prior to the principal opening the dumpster in the morning, waking the animal.
The superintendent added, “Principals may need hazard pay in Wild Wonderful West Virginia!”
Principal Marsh was also interviewed by a news agency and said, “You put trash in a dumpster, but you don’t expect anything to come out!”
And further added, “That was an unexpected surprise!”
“It all happened so fast, and I am glad that nobody got hurt, and I can laugh about it now! For my students and staff’s safety though, I would prefer this bear find his meals elsewhere,” he concluded.
Stay calm and don’t run.
The students were concerned and two of them reminded Principal Marsh not to run when one encounters a bear.
As a general rule in most parks, a person should not run.
However, if the bear did follow, stop and hold your ground.
And the last resort would be fighting back.
Though in this case, the bear was also surprised and hastily ran away.
The video has since been viewed more than 800 thousand times in just a month after posting.
It has also been flooded with comments.
A user shared their experience as well and commented, “Reminds me of when me and a couple classmates took bags of trash out to a dumpster and there was a squirrel inside. It came out of a hole in the top, paused, then literally leaped at one of us before running off into the woods. We couldn’t stop talking about it all day.”
Statistically speaking, there’s a slim chance of being attacked by a bear.
According to statistics, there are roughly 40 bear attacks recorded each year worldwide.
Between 2000 and 2015, 183 cases were reported in North America.
That’s about 27.5% of the total 664 bear attacks globally in the same period.
Though the odds of being attacked by a bear are one in 2.1 million.
