Dogs tend to have a ‘sixth sense’. It seems like they can always tell when someone needs comforting or protecting and they’ll gladly help in any way they can.
The compassionate hero in this story is a stray dog from Muscoy, California, now-named Murphy. This sweet boy stayed by the side of another dog named Marley after a terrible accident occurred.
Marley had been struck by a car. The impact shattered one of her elbows and also fractured one leg. The poor girl was left in the middle of the road in agonizing pain. Cars passed one by one but no one stopped to help the poor girl. That is – until Murphy came along.
Murphy sat down next to the injured German Shepherd and waited until someone finally decided to call for help – that’s when Dream Fetchers: Project Rescue arrived.
“Marley was in terrible distress and pain and breathing heavily,” rescuer Faith Easdale told The Dodo. “We weren’t even sure if she was going to make it.”
They knew it was going to be painful for Marley, but they had to lift her and get her to the car so they could take her to seek medical attention. The entire time, Murphy wanted to stay by her side.
“Murphy wouldn’t leave her side on the street.”
Once Marley arrived at the hospital, they gave her x-rays to examine the extent of her injuries. That’s when they discovered a big surprise – she was pregnant with 10 puppies!
After she was treated for her injuries, the pregnant mama-to-be was taken to a foster home in her casts. The I.C.A.R.E Dog Rescue shared a Facebook post after she successfully gave birth that read:
“Marley was found on the side of the road where she was left broken after being hit by a car. Thankfully, she was rescued by a wonderful team of people and got the help she needed. She went through 2 surgeries to repair her rear leg and was about to have her shattered front leg repaired when they found out she was expecting! Due to her pregnancy, they had to put treatment for her front leg on hold and she’s now in a cast. Momma Marley delivered 10 gorgeous, healthy puppies via c-section 10 days ago. She had 6 handsome boys and 4 lovely little ladies. They are in a loving foster home and are all doing amazing!”
We couldn’t be happier about this outcome! The accident and Marley’s birth happened two years ago, and thankfully, everyone ended up with a happy ending – even Murphy.
The rescue group ensured the compassionate Murphy found his very own loving home and Marley is loving life as well.
