Lonely shelter dog is desperate to hold hands with anyone passing by
The poor thing is desperate for love and attention.

This shelter dog was so lonely, he would anxiously stick his paws through the bars of his cage every time someone walked by.

All 2-year-old Speck wanted to do was hold hands with anyone who was willing to take him up on his offer of a friendly paw-shake!

But sadly, no one did anything more than give him a cursory hello before they moved on to the cuter, younger pups at the Alabama shelter he called home.

This went on for a year and a half, and in all that time Speck never gave up hope that a loving family would “shake on it” and agree to give him a forever home.

“All he wants is people love.”

Desperate times call for desperate measures, and Speck did everything in the puppy playbook to get people’s attention. And can you blame this sweet, lonely boy?

He’d already been living at the Bullock County Humane Society in Alabama for a year and a half, and that’s quite a long time in doggy years!

However, when looking cute and wagging his tail wasn’t enough, Speck finally resorted to shoving his wet little nose between the metal bars of his cage every time he heard footsteps approach.

His unusual tactic seemed to work at first, because most people can’t resist a confident, go-getter pooch who goes out of his way to introduce himself!

Only problem was, after giving him a pat on the head and a scratch behind the ears, folks would move on and leave him behind.

Speck’s antics were certainly adorable, but it just wasn’t enough to convince anyone to take him home with them.

The former street dog has scars on his face that he got from who knows what, but his hard life hasn’t turned him into a cold-hearted pup.

In fact, Speck’s attitude towards humans is just the opposite! The shelter’s director, Desiray Miracle-Wilder, told The Dodo that all this puppy really wants is “some people love.”

“If you sit down, he’s laying on you, if you hold his hand, he’ll hold your hand, if you scratch his belly, he’ll roll over.”

“He just wants you to touch him.”

Speck is so intent on winning over any loving family who will have him, he’s developed a bit of tunnel vision. He doesn’t care what’s going on in the world around him – his entire world revolves around getting people to notice him.

“You could put anything else around him – another giant dog, a cat, but he is just so fixated on getting love from people that he doesn’t care about anything else.”

One day after she cleaned the kennels, Desiray filmed Speck’s adorable hand-holding routine.

“He will reach his little hand out and he just wants you to touch him and hold his hand. And he’s so sad when you walk off to finish cleaning or whatever you have to do.”

She hoped someone on social media would finally take notice of this sweet doggo, and boy did it work! After the video clip went viral, everyone wanted to take this little love bug home.

Speck now has fur-ever family lined up on a 26-acre farm in New York and is currently awaiting transportation.

Not only did this clip help this pup get adopted, but his cuteness also brought attention to other needy animals at the shelter who were able to find their forever homes, too.
