Giving birth is both an amazing as well as scary event, things can easily go wrong without proper care.
The idea of giving birth all alone, with no one to guide and help you, can seem very overwhelming.
And that’s not true just for humans, almost all animals want some kind of support during the process.
One dog found herself 63 days pregnant and ready to give birth.
She felt contractions start and went to find help.
She found a home and began to whine and scratch at the door hoping someone would hear her.
The dog remained at the door for hours trying to get the owner’s attention, unfortunately, though, no one was home.
As her contractions got faster and more intense, the dog realized she would have to find help from elsewhere, and she went looking.
In an incredible stroke of luck, the next place the dog found was the community veterinary office.
Again she whined and scratched at the door, but this time, someone came to her rescue.
The staff at the vet’s office realized that she was about to give birth and they rushed her into a sterilized exam room and began preparing.
She lay on her back as the team set about making sure everything was ready for the arrival of the puppies, they gave her an ultrasound to see what they should be expecting.
The team thought they would be seeing just a few puppies but the exam showed that the dog was carrying 12 tiny pups in her swollen belly.
Immediately they set up an area for the mother and surrounded her with food, water, and lots of blankets.
Over the course of the next few hours, the momma dog gave birth to 12 healthy pups, mostly a browny-blond colour with a few being jet black.
Once all the puppies had arrived and were cleaned up and checked by the vet, the family could finally relax.
During the entire process, even though she was surely in pain, the incredible mother dog wagged her tail.
She knew that her and her puppies would be safe and cared for.
After the ordeal, the vet checked the mother for tags and found that she had been abandoned by her previous family, presumably they did not want to deal with 12 little puppies.
The dog managed to find herself a new family though, and the very vet that helped her through her delivery ended up adopting her.
She remained with her pups at the vet for 8 weeks until her pups were old enough to be weaned and were adopted by other families.
She now has a safe and comfortable home and is said to be an extremely sweet and kind dog.
Luckily for her, she found the perfect place to go to ensure her family would be safe.
Whether you call it luck or mothers intuition, it was definitely amazing that the mother managed to find herself a vet when she needed one most.
