Fostering animals is a challenging task, even for experienced ones.
It doesn’t matter how many animals you’ve fostered, it’s always a different experience every time because they all have their different stories.
Some have their own stories of abuse.
Some were abandoned.
Some foster animals have existing conditions that need specific care.
Then there are the pregnant fosters.
Carter is a foster mom for Saving Grace in North Carolina.
She helps out the non-profit organization by taking in stray animals and nursing them back to health so they can be adopted.
One of the dogs that came to her was Pebbles.
Pebbles is a pregnant momma and she was scared at first when Carter picked her up.
The fear disappeared, however, when they arrived at Carter’s house.
With her tail wagging and ears perked up, Mama Pebbles was loving all the attention!
She may be about to become a momma herself but Pebbles loved that she found a momma in Carter.
Pebbles followed Carter everywhere and she loved receiving head scratches from her.
She’s so grateful to Carter for giving Pebbles her current home that she showed off her personality almost immediately.
In just a week since arriving at her house, Carter already knew that Pebbles loved scrambled eggs and peanut butter.
Pebbles is Carter’s first pregnant foster (and she was definitely not the last!).
Carter may not know exactly what to do just yet but she knew she would do everything she could to help Pebbles out.
It was nerve-wracking though because they had no idea when the puppies were going to come out.
Because this was her first time fostering a pregnant dog, Carter was still so unprepared for the birth.
Carter didn’t have time to stress about it even more because a week after her arrival, Pebbles gave birth!
To make it a light yet exciting moment, Saving Grace asked their followers on their Facebook page to guess the number of puppies Pebbles will have.
The winner will receive a swag bag from Saving Grace.

Pebbles gave birth at around 2 in the morning.
Carter found five puppies being nursed by Pebbles and thought she was done.
Carter was happy because she could handle five puppies.
Then Carter noticed that Pebbles was still having contractions. She wasn’t done yet!
From the initial round of five puppies, Mama Pebbles gave birth to 14 puppies.
Yes, you read that right.
Fourteen beautiful puppies.
“I thought, ‘There’s no way! This dog just had 14 puppies. This is insane,” Carter told The Dodo.
Pebbles was the greatest mama.
She kept her puppies fed and clean.
She taught them everything she knew about dog life.
It was the perfect way to get them adopted.
Pebbles was adopted as well.
A mom named Cassandra adopted Pebbles but it was her son, Wyatt, who took over training Pebbles (who they named Zara).
“I’m so excited to see Zara definitely grow up with Wyatt and to see their grow even stronger,” Cassandra shared.
Finally, Pebbles/Zara has found her forever family.
Unfortunately, there were no correct guesses so Saving Grace gave away 1 swag bag each to those who played on their social media accounts via random draw.
