Rainbow, a loving and caring dog, has been known to be wandering the streets and was homeless. She recently gave birth to a number of puppies and tried everything she could to keep all of them safe on the street, but only two days later, nature would strike with a severe rain storm.
The mom and puppies were wandering the streets of California, but luckily word of Rainbow and her family quickly reached the Hope for Paws organization. The rescuers desperately tried looking for the puppy family for over three and a half hours in the middle of the storm, but they were overjoyed when they finally found them.
Rainbow and her children were hiding behind a couple of thick bushes and seemed to have dug in pretty well. Nonetheless, the storm made it very unsafe for the puppies and they needed help.
The dog did everything she could to keep her newborn children warm in a soaking wet and cold weather condition. Rainbow has been on the radar of animal rescuers for a couple of months, but she was always very protective of herself and was afraid to interact with humans. Now that she had the responsibilities of being a mother, she seemed to realize she couldn’t manage on her own and needed help.
Eldad Hagar, the founder of Hope For Paws, was leading the rescue. Before he went in to rescue the pups, he made sure to interact with Rainbow for a bit to build up trust. He also gave her some food and tried to keep her warm.
After a while, Eldad started to take the puppies one by one and shelter them safely in their truck. When Eldad lifted one of the puppies away from Rainbow, she gave the puppy a heartwarming kiss – it very much seems like the canine equivalent of letting her child now everything was going to be alright. As Eldad rescued the puppies, Rainbow licked each and every one of them.
Finally, when all the puppies were rescued, Rainbow knew it was her turn as well. She joined the rescuers and took care of her puppies in the van. The rescuers took them to a nearby veterinarian’s office, which suffered from a power outage due to the storm. With flashlights in hand, the rescuers made sure that mother and puppies weren’t hurt and warmed up.
Although Rainbow has been scared of humans in the past, she has become fond of her rescuers and the feeling is definitely mutual. The puppies were named Thunder, Breezy, Misty, Raindrop, Flash, Bolt, Stormy and Droplet.
Rainbow and her puppies are currently in foster care and will be made available for adoption.
