Welcoming a dog into your life has a lot of wonderful benefits. You get someone to cuddle with, love on, and spoil to no end. They’re your best friend and a loyal companion like no other.

They’re also the best security system.

They not only alert you to someone or something showing up. They’ll alert you when something’s just not right.

This story is the perfect example of that.

Ember is a pit bull that was adopted by the Daniels family in the state of Ohio. The Daniels got Ember from the rescue organization Adore-A-Bull.

Ember bonded with their son.

After she was adopted, Ember formed a special relationship with 10-year-old Tre Daniels. The two were practically inseparable.

Ember even knew every single one of Tre’s needs.

Ember’s relationship with Tre proved to be incredibly valuable one night.

Their bond saved Tre’s life.

That night, Tracy heard Ember doing an odd sort of grumble. It wasn’t a sound she’d ever heard Ember make before and it instantly concerned her.

She told Local 12 News:

“We were sleeping and she just sat down next to the bed and she was doing this real low grumble. It wasn’t even a growl, it was just this odd grumble.”

Ember’s ploy to wake mom worked.

Tracy got out of bed to see what was going on with Ember. The pit bull was unrelenting and led Tracy down the hallway and to the bathroom.

Inside the bathroom, Tracy saw her son hanging halfway in the tub and his head was extended back.

Tre was having a seizure.

Tre was rushed to the hospital to get checked out. Thankfully, while he was in the hospital, Tre got blood work done.

The doctors could not find any existing conditions and sent him home, saying that he should be okay.

If Ember had not found Tre and woken up Tracy, the story might have had a much different ending. Thankfully, she is able to keep an eye on Tre, just in case.

After the incident, Libby Power from Adore-A-Bull told Local News 12:,

“It’s a very proud moment not only for our organization but more so for this dog that was abandoned. She was a lone puppy on the streets. She had no family, nobody to be her advocate.”

Ember has helped alter the stigma

The rescue group has seen some nasty incidents with pit bulls, as the breed is often judged and deemed aggressive by many people.

Libby says that many accidents that occur with pit bulls are more of a reflection on the owner than the dog.

According to Animal Planet, dogs are very intuitive and can sense when something is wrong.

There have been cases of dogs detecting cancer in their owners long before the owner is actually diagnosed by a doctor.

PetFinder is trying to break the myth

The pet adoption website says:

“Reality: Dog-aggression and people-aggression are two distinctive traits and should not be confused. Unless a Pit Bull has been poorly bred or purposefully trained to attack humans, they generally love people. They are, in fact, one of the most loving, loyal, friendly and dedicated companions you can have.”

For those looking to adopt pit bulls that are heroes like Ember, there are many in shelters across the U.S.

They range from American Bully, American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, and the Staffordshire Bull Terrier.

You can check out your local shelter to see what good dogs need homes.
