The organization’s Project Manager Alex Babock drove to the location alongside one of their rescuers JoAnn Wiltz. They found a black and white pitbull waiting by the dumpster of Church’s Chicken.

The pitbull ran and hid behind the trash bins, scared of their arrival.

A presence of a stranger always scares animals. You can see it in their demeanor when you try to get close. This dog just hasn’t sensed that these strangers were there to help.

A garbage truck arrived to collect the trash; the dog hid further in the corner.

You can see her tail wagging down – a sign of being scared. With everything going on around her, she couldn’t help but sit in that corner. But this was also a perfect opportunity to capture the Pitbull.

Alex and JoAnn tried to bait her out with a burger.

They first threw a few pieces to see if she’d eat them – and she did. Then, they made a move closer to the dog and hand-fed her. The dog seemed pleased with the food but was still very scared.

JoAnn then placed the food in front of the leash so they could easily capture her.

Lo and behold, the dog went for it, and JoAnn was able to leash her. That’s one hurdle down! The dog was still scared of the garbage truck and continued to hide behind the bins.

The dog started to walk with them as the truck pulled away.

Alex and JoAnn finally managed to take her out of the dumpster, and the dog, grateful to her rescuers, gave them both some kisses. That’s how she got her name – Kisses.

They took Kisses to Hope for Paw’s headquarters to give her some TLC.

It was amazing to see how well-behaved she was when they bathed her. They scrubbed her body and snout. The water turned dark gray, which means Kisses might have been there for quite a while.

After her bath, they took Kisses to their playroom, and you’d instantly see her change.

She became more active and playful. It was easy for her to get along with the other dogs in a few days. She played with them and was very gentle even during play.

Of course, she still gave her dear rescuers some kisses.

She loved cuddling with them and smothering them. This shows how grateful this sweet Pitbull was for her rescuers.

Kisses is still up for adoption.
