Eric Maus, a dog walker, was going about his usual day one afternoon. While walking his pup clients, Gouda and Lily, Eric strolled through Prospect Park when he noticed something amiss.
Next to a tree was a chained Pit Bull, along with a note attached.
As Eric approached the pit bull to read the note, the pit bull was very calm.
Even with two other dogs in tow, the pit bull was not threatened, and instead was loving to his dog brethren.
The note reiterated the pit bull’s sweet demeanor:
“Take me home. I’m a great dog. I’m 7 years old. Don’t let my size scare you. I’m sweet.”
Eric knew he couldn’t leave the sweet pittie, named Mamas from the note, behind. At the same time, he didn’t know what to do. He knew that Prospect Park was not a good place for a dog to be left alone – let alone abandoned – but that was the situation that darling Mamas found herself.
Deciding to get some peer advice, Eric posted a photo of Mamas to a Facebook neighborhood page. Within a few minutes, Eric began getting answers.
One kind Samaritan suggested Eric meet them by the tree where Mamas was found. They also arranged a vehicle to take Eric, Mamas and Eric’s pup clients to Sean Casey Animal Rescue, where the local shelter made a kennel available for Mamas.
Together, Eric, the Good Samaritan, and Mamas left Prospect Park. However, Mamas couldn’t walk at a normal pace due to her size and a possible bladder infection. Poor girl.
However, after being safely secured in the car, the trio arrived at the local shelter, where all of Mamas hesitancy instantly melted away.
Mamas immediately jumped out of the car and dashed to the shelter. It was like she knew she was finally safe. And it’s all thanks to Eric and the kind Samaritan, who gave Mamas a new lease on life.
Just look at that smile! What a sweetie!
After Mamas passes the required stray hold length and is healthy, she’ll be available for adoption where some lucky family will add this sweet gal to their home.
In the meantime, Mamas is a happy camper. She loves to be out and about in the park and loves being surrounded by people who care for her.
Shame on the person who abandoned Mamas by a tree, but at least this girl had an angel watching over her.
What a happy ending for a happy girl! Happy trails, Mamas!
