When you think of animals that hunt salmon, dogs aren’t usually the first animals that come to mind. But it turns out, when they’re given the opportunity, some dogs turn into natural fishermen!
Ken Weisner is the owner of two playful pit bulls named Kaylie and Elijah. One day, Ken left the pit bulls with a friend who brought the dogs to a local river. There, the dogs had a great time running in the river, chasing giant salmon. They were able to catch a few salmon, and after they caught the humongous fish, they brought them to the side of the river.
While the resulting video is cute, Ken does say that other dog owners shouldn’t let their pups hunt salmon. In the description of his video, he explains that he wouldn’t have allowed the dogs to catch the fish if he had been there. However, he also explains that the salmon had finished spawning and were at the end of their life cycles. After the dogs caught the fish, Ken’s friend put the salmon back into the river to die naturally and to feed the local wildlife.
Kaylie and Elijah clearly had a ton of fun running through the river, picking up all of the salmon that they found. To see the two fishing dogs in action, check out the video below.
