The relationship between dogs and cats gets a bad name. The story goes that dogs hate cats and vice versa.

But that isn’t always true.

And neither is what they say about pit bulls. We hear they are vicious and dangerous animals. But that’s rarely the case.

Even with a pit bull named Hades. Don’t let the name fool you.

He’s definitely not fierce and cruel, like his namesake.

Well, he’s not anymore. He’s actually very gentle and kind. Hades also likes to share. He lives in Mexico with his dad Juan José P. Flores.

Hades learned all about love and kindness from his dad.

Flores would always make sure to leave out food for a stray cat in the neighborhood.

Flores tried to offer the cat a forever home but she was a wild thing. She would never let him get close to her or let him take her home.

So, Flores would just make sure that she never went hungry. Eventually, Hades decided that he would make sure that the stray was taken care of too.

Finally, Hades’ big day came where he could be the one to take care of the stray.

Flores recalls hearing the sound of knocking at his back door. He thought it was a person but it was actually Hades.

I tell you that our puppy Hades had days that he behaved a little strange, a little strange, annoying than usual, more accelerated, he ran from one side to the other, hitting doors, windows, as if looking for something (he even destroyed a cushion which was the basis for him to lie down),” Flores said on Facebook, according to Google translation. “Well, this morning was the day that he was most restless, he even knocked on the door of the house several times so hard that I thought it had been a person.”

Hades was acting quite frantic.

“He was desperate and making a lot of noise,” Flores told The Dodo.

So, Flores stepped outside of the door to see what the fuss was about.

When I went out to see, he was in a ball outside the door and he always sleeps inside his house, when I look out, he had left his house to a pregnant kitten and there she had her kittens.”

Flores noticed the familiar-looking stray who he realized was pregnant and had been searching for a safe place to deliver her babies.

And the stray couldn’t have found a safer place than with Hades.

He didn’t try to go inside the house or bark at them, he just watched over them.

“He dragged a blanket over to the entrance of his house and settled outside the door,” Flores said. “She felt protected by him.”

The cat was able to give birth to two kittens.

And Hades couldn’t have been happier.

“I think he felt that he was a father,” Flores said.

Eventually, Flores decided it was best to bring the mom and her kittens inside so they could be extra safe.

Now Hades and the cat, whose name is Nicol, are best friends.

Flores said he plans to find homes for the kittens once they are old enough, but Nicol is a permanent family member.

“Pit bulls are good dogs,” Flores said. “Hades put everything aside to help someone else. We should do the same without expecting anything in return.”
