Four pigs trapped in muddy wastewater ask for help
They needed a savior.

Pigs are a very intelligent species of farm animal. Movies like Babe and Charlotte’s Web have helped show people how incredible pigs are. But sadly, these animals aren’t always treated so well.

The story of three pigs named Katniss, Rue, and Prim is the perfect example of this. Before landing at a sanctuary, these pigs had a hard life.

Katniss, Rue, and Prim live in Arthur’s Acres Animal Sanctuary.

Here, they enjoy feasting on pumpkins, peanuts, treat balls and grain. The pigs also enjoy lots of human affection. Visitors often pet and rub them.

Todd Friedman, who founded the sanctuary, said:

“They’re very happy-go-lucky, which is amazing coming from the situation where they came from.”

But there are still telltale signs that they’ve been through something tragic. For example, they eat lots, even for pigs. They’re used to starvation, so always eat like they won’t find food for a long time.

But what happened to these pigs to cause such trauma? When Southern NY Pig Rescue found them, they were all sick.

They were incredibly thin, extremely terrified, and had had no fresh water for days.

In fact, they were in a tiny stall that was filled with mucky, muddy water. It was nearly drowning them.

Katniss, Rue and Prim were even having to sleep on each other’s backs just to avoid drowning. But how did Southern NY Pig Rescue find them in the first place?

A neighbor to the original owner of the pigs was able to notice the state that the pigs were in. The owner assured her that he was looking after the animals. But she could tell that they were in a bad way.

She did the right thing and contacted the SPCA, which then got in touch with the Southern NY Pig Rescue service.

The men and women of the Southern NY Pig Rescue service have seen some shocking things over the years, but many have said that this was the worst case ever.

In October 2018, the pigs arrived at their new home, which is completely different from their last one!

In the months since, they’ve changed from timid creatures to friendly pets.

“They were definitely standoffish. They were never angry or aggressive at all, but they were not understanding a pet or a scratch or a belly rub,” Friedman said.

However, now they’re the favorites of the visitors to the sanctuary and those who volunteer. They even follow Friedman about all day long. It looks like they’ve found a lifelong friend!

After reading this and seeing these pictures, do you think that anyone will ever want to eat meat again? If the above story isn’t inspiring enough, then Arthur’s Acres Animal Sanctuary’s mission truly is.

Todd Friedman, the founder of Arthur’s Acres Animal Sanctuary, has been volunteering for animal welfare organizations for years. But in 2018, he decided to purchase a whole farm and transform it into a place that saved as many animals as possible.

But if Todd Friedman started the Arthur’s Acres Animal Sanctuary, then who is Arthur?

Arthur is the first animal to be rescued by the sanctuary. Amazingly, when Friedman first came to view the farm, he found Arthur abandoned in the building.

Friedman insisted on taking the pig with him. Arthur has since been joined by Katniss, Rue, Prim, and many other animals.

Friedman has done an incredible job taking care of so many animals who have nobody else in the world. These three pigs came from a sad situation, but they never have to worry about going hungry again. If you’d like to support the organization, consider making a donation.
