We are all WELL aware of how absolutely adorable our pets are whether they be cats, rabbits or horses. But have you ever seen what they look like from underneath?
Lithuania-based photographer Andrius Burba has and is completely obsessed with the underside of animals.
Photographing the animals from underneath against a black background has become his signature work. He has composed several photos series’ including Under-Cats, Under-Rabbits, and Under-Horse for a project he calls Underlook. But his latest series focus’ on man’s best friend.
But his latest series focuses on man’s best friend.
The photos come from Burba’s Under-Dogs book. He reveals that though his cat and dog projects were comparable, he had the most fun with dogs.
“Cats were very cute but dogs are more playful,” Burba wrote in an article for Bored Panda. “Dogs are more obedient which helps us to create more interesting shots.”
That is evident by checking out the awkward looking pup above.
“While some dogs were playful on the ground they have completely changed on the glass and stood still like a rock,” Burba said.
Like the stone-faced pups you see above and below.
“Others weren’t afraid of standing above which was easy and fun to work with,” he said.
Burba said there are two main things he has learned from photographing the underside of animals.
“First, cats think they are gods, since people feed, love and give them homes,” Burba explains. “Secondly, dogs see human as a god as they feed, love and give them homes.”
Read that twice if you have to.
To get the perfect shot, Burba had to have a custom designed manufactured glass table made for the series in order to support the weight and size of bigger dogs.
Burba said that since doing his Under-Dogs series, he now plans to continue photographing the underside of animals full-time.
He’s planning to photograph tigers for a future photo series.
