When your beloved pet goes missing, we can imagine your heart rate going through the roof. Of course, most owners would immediately stop everything they’re doing and look for their pet, but this quadriplegic man wishes he could do exactly that.
Danny Kriedter from Aquebogue, New York is quadriplegic and unable to move on his own.
When the man’s dog Moe went missing, he was absolutely heartbroken.
Danny couldn’t go and look for his loyal four-footer himself because of his medical condition, but this adorable black-and-white pup managed to mobilize the entire local community.
The pup was only two years old at the time he went missing and is best buddies with his owner Danny and depends on him for so many things. The man saved the Chihuahua-Jack Russell mix over a year ago in a shelter.
The 47-year-old man has been paralyzed from the neck down ever since took a nasty fall from a roof of a home. The man previously worked as a roofer and has been paralyzed for almost 25 years. Breathing and speaking is a tough obstacle for Danny as he constantly needs to be attached to a machine that delivers oxygen. He also can’t use both of his arms and legs.
Moe has also been a major emotional and therapeutic help for the man.
“Moe brought out a new side of him,” one of his caretakers told News Daily. “He’s a lot happier.”
One day, Moe was nowhere to be found.
Danny needs constant monitoring from caretakers, and one of his nurses then decided to print out dozens of the typical ‘lost dog’ flyers and hang them around in the local area. However, it wouldn’t end there, as the local community quickly received word about Moe’s disappearance. Danny desperately wanted to get his best friend back and offered a reward of $500 because he was worried sick.
Shortly after, people starting posting messages on their social media profiles regarding the pup.
The posts online resulted in a sort of snowball effect, which eventually led to a team of 50 volunteers who were actively searching for the pup.
Some of the volunteers even tried to lure Moe back to Danny’s house with a trail of tasty treats.
“I went to the park, I put up flyers, I stopped people on foot, I spoke to the police, I went to the shelters,” one of the volunteers said to News Day, who didn’t even know Danny at all.
The community effort also made the local news. In the end, it wasn’t the team of volunteers that found the small pup back, but a high school student who spotted Moe in the backyard.
The student, Andrea, said that she found Danny’s contact details on the dog’s tag and she also recognized him from a television report a couple of days earlier.
Moe and Danny were finally reunited.
“I’m speechless,” the man told. “I’m so happy he’s home.”
Danny says that Moe absolutely adores hanging around in the house and spends a lot of time jumping on the couch and cuddling around in bed.
“He’s almost like a person,” Danny said. “He loves people. At first he’s shy, but he loves to come up and lick your face.
“Tears of joy,” he said after being reunited.
It’s still unknown why or how Moe ran away from home, but the important thing is that he was finally safe. Understandably, the four-footer was still a little bit in shock at first but has already returned to his old and affectionate habits.
Big props for the volunteers of the search!
