Having your pet go missing has to be any owner’s worst nightmare, and when the days go by with no news, it starts to become more likely that your beloved pet isn’t going to come back. This is unimaginably painful, and the grief from losing them would be similar to as if they had passed away.
A long time after grief comes acceptance – where you begin to understand that you will never know where your pet disappeared to and whether they’re okay, but you know that it’s time to move on.
For one woman in Oklahoma, that’s exactly what happened. Her dog vanished for six years, and through her grief, she had managed to accept that he was never going to come back. Until one day she got a phone call that changed her life.
In a Walmart parking lot, a stray dog was wandering around by himself, and the staff was growing concerned. One kind-hearted manager decided to snap a pic of the pup – who was adorably sitting in one of the shopping carts, as if he was waiting to be found. They shared it onto the Norman Community Facebook Page for Norman, Oklahoma in the hopes that someone would come forward and claim the pup. The caption read:
“I’m lost! I need my parents. I wandered into Walmart on Classen Blvd. Come get me!”
The post sparked attention and, according to some comments, a woman named Deb Melser headed to Walmart to check if the pup was microchipped. She personally recorded what happened next on her Facebook profile page.
Deb shared four heartwarming pictures onto her Facebook with the caption:
“I can’t believe I was part of something pretty amazing tonight. So, a dog walks into Walmart through the cart section – LOL – sounds like the beginning of a joke, right?”
“True story, though. I volunteer to scan him for a microchip. Drive over to Walmart, where a very kind woman, the assistant manager of the store, has him in her office.”
“Lo and behold, he HAS a chip!! Call the chip company and got owner info. First number was incorrect. Second number worked, and this lady’s mom said, she doesn’t think her daughter has that dog anymore.”
Whilst all this was happening, Deb explained that the caring manager called Sandy had offered to take the pooch in and provide him with a safe home until the owners were found. This is where Deb’s story takes a dramatic turn. She tells Facebook:
“Kimberly, who the chip is registered to, called and said she lost him 6 YEARS ago!!!! 6 YEARS!!! She looked everywhere for him, but had given up hope! Well, here’s the ending of this story. . .”
With that, Deb then shared these four touching photos, and we think they managed to sum up Kimberly’s overwhelming emotions of seeing her dog again better than any words could have done.
In the pictures, Kimberly is hugging her dog as if she never wants to let him go again, and you can see the tears in her eyes. She starts by cuddling him on the ground before picking him up and holding him in their arms. It truly is a beautiful moment.
It’s amazing that after six years of mourning her pup, Kimberly was finally reunited with him again. We do love a happy ending.
