Babies need to stick to their mothers to be cared for.

You couldn’t see one baby who wouldn’t cry for their mothers or desperately cling to them. They need them close, especially in the first few months – nursing and putting them to sleep. After all, babies and their mothers had been so close to each other for nine months.

This is the same with baby animals.

Most pups often need their mothers after birth, and mothers also look after their little ones. Luckily, for most animals (including humans), mothers continue to look after their children.

We all need some love, care, and guidance, after all. So, it’s normal to see pups clinging closer to their mothers and crying after them if they don’t feel their presence.

A netizen caught this adorable – albeit anxiety-inducing – moment of an otter who wanted to get to his mother. Watch the video until the end, and we promise you it’s all worth your while.

The otter was first trying to roll over.

He was on his back and struggled to get back on his feet. He wiggled and wriggled until he finally rolled in all fours.

Then, he started to crawl his way to the edge of the dock.

Slowly but surely, he was making progress. He was still struggling to move, but he badly wanted to get to his mom, who was in the water.

He finally dropped into the water with one final, tiny step.

You could hear him squealing harder, but he was probably shocked and scared of being in the water after such a long time. But the most beautiful thing happened right after.

His mother went near him, grabbed him, and snuggled him in her arms.

It was the sweetest, most adorable thing ever! The mother otter immediately went to her little one to calm him down.

And it seemed like many viewers noticed and loved this part, too!

A lot of them commented that it was as if the mother otter was telling her baby: “there. I’m here. It’s going to be okay.” We are all familiar with that because our mothers would usually tell us if we felt scared.

As for otters, this is a very natural behavior, especially for mothers nursing their pups.

They carry them in their belly and nurse them until around six to eight months. Judging from the size of that otter, he looked like he was around that age.

Mother otters are also very protective of their pups.

They defend them aggressively. Maybe that was why the person filming didn’t touch the otter at all – or they might receive the wrath of a protective mother.

Baby otters stay with their mothers until they are a year old.

It would take around nine weeks until they could first swim and about six months until they could dive and hunt independently.
