Many animals are great moms. Some have maternal instincts for animals from other species.
That’s just the case with this sweet dog who met a little kitten.
Lucie and her trustworthy dog, Toast, went out for a walk one day when they saw a little cat just outside their house. The kitten was skinny but was surprisingly tame.
When the kitten noticed Lucie and Toast on the street, she immediately started meowing and hurriedly walked towards Toast.
As the kitten found its way toward the pooch, Lucie then asked Toast to be gentle to the baby cat.
They left the kitten on the street, assuming that her mom was still around.
Lucie did not want to separate the little kitten from her parent so Lucie and Toast left the area and went back inside the house, just in case the kitten’s mom would come back and get her baby.
However, they were just surprised to see the skinny kitty following them back inside.
As Lucie welcomed the kitty inside her home, the kitty went directly to her dog, Toast. Wherever Toast goes, the kitten would follow, even on the lengthy stairs.
Toast somehow became the baby cat’s mom.
The next morning, Lucie was off to feed Toast her food.
The kitten jumped in Toast’s food tray to eat and Toast just watched the hungry kitty satisfy herself. Later on, Toast joined her eating and you could just see them adorably munching together.
After that, Lucie just witnessed how the animals got along with each other and it was pretty sweet.
The kitty may have just chosen Toast as her new mom and the pooch had no problem with that. Their chemistry was just amazing even though they are different.
This dog is a better mom than some people.
The kitty’s favorite sleeping spot was in between Toast’s leg and belly. Despite the kitty not being Toast’s baby, she would still treat the kitten as her own.
Toast would groom the kitty with her big tongue, and would even help her get into high places and furniture.
Toast was just an extra protective mom, always making sure that her baby is safe especially when going up or down the stairs.
Moreover, when the kitty gets close to the pool, Toast would run and bring her back inside the house with her mouth.
Toast just became an adorably anxious mother toward the cat.
This unusual adoption might just be the most wholesome story today.
Most have seen or heard about animals adopting other animals in the wild or not.
National Geographic has dubbed this behavior as instinctual or for mutual benefit, but even they are not really sure of what causes this behavior to occur.
“I’ve always felt that animals are super instinctive and nature is well done,” Lucie told The Dodo. “Toast especially, she’s so human that she really just works on emotions,” she added. “She has very strong instincts. She’s like a human being.”
It’s so adorable to see these two’s relationship grow. What a pair of sweethearts.
