Someone found a two-week-old baby fox that was abandoned in its den. They then contacted Carolina Wildlife Conversation Center to take a look at the poor kit. The team immediately responded to the call and drove to the destination in their car. When they reached the location, they saw the poor kit themselves and were shocked by its horrible condition.

They could not find their parents everywhere.

The baby fox, who they named Butter, was washed out of her den. When these wildlife rescuers checked the area, they could not find her parent anywhere. Because the fox was still two weeks old, she couldn’t survive alone in the wild without any kind of parental guidance from her mother.

The rescuers couldn’t leave her there to die especially when they saw how malnourished she was, and she was also constantly wheezing as if she is forcing a cough.

In just two weeks, the baby fox was already showing a lot of improvements.

Butter was fed and treated by her rescuers, and they let her live in a safe and peaceful environment. In under two weeks, she already became a completely different fox.

Butter became active — maybe too active. Her rescuers would find her room in a complete mess. Although, this behavior is quite normal for her age and instead of being mad, her rescuers were happy that she was in “full force.”

That was when they thought that she needed a friend.

Since Butter’s companions are only her rescuers, they thought it was due to time to let her meet another fox. It was just perfect when they got a call for another baby fox they named Toffee.

Toffee was involved in a car accident but luckily survived. However, they were quite worried as to how Butter would react after meeting Toffee, but they knew it was the least they could do to let these two young kits learn how to socialize and also spend that playful energy together as friends.

The foxes’ reactions were a lot better than they expected.

Both foxes were on the other side of the fence, but as Butter saw Toffee on the other side, she immediately ran toward her. A handler was holding Toffee and she felt how excited the little fox was after seeing Butter in front of her. It really seems that they couldn’t wait to play with each other.

The two immediately became the best of friends after letting Toffee inside the fence with Butter.

It’s like they already knew each other. They would constantly chase each other on the fence and even playing a game of hiding and seek. When they grew a bit older, you could see a burst of their personalities. They became an adorably mischievous duo who would dig holes inside their pen, but their rescuers thought that it was a nice thing.

Letting them go was the best part.

Foxes need to live in their own habitat, and of course, their rescuers knew that. When they knew they were more than ready for the real world, they started opening their pen, letting them have the freedom to roam outside and come back in as they want.

It did not take long until they got used to being outside, and the rescuers knew they were ready to go back to the wild. It was an emotional moment for the rescuers, but they knew it was the best thing for them as wild foxes.
