Dogs are not only cute animals; they are also very protective- not only of their owners, but also of their best friends.
As experts explain, older dogs protect new puppies for several reasons.
Sometimes it’s their motherly nature that asks them to make sure little pups are safe, while in other cases there’s jealousy around, which makes them want to protect the little one all the time so that they get your attention.
Of course, it’s highly probable that they just like the new entry and they want to be friends with it, so they take care of this puppy to make sure they’ll be great together as time goes by.
So, like many other dogs, Vinny, an 11-year-old dog living with his owners in Mission Viejo, California, recently saved his little friend’s life after a coyote attack.
You see, a few weeks ago, a coyote entered Erin and David Macaluso’s front yard and attacked their little puppy.
The small dog, Harley, was too scared and too young to protect himself, so he started crying and -in dog language- asking for help.
His 10-pound brother, Vinny, heard his cries and didn’t even think twice; he rushed to the spot where he had been taken by the coyote in order to rescue him.
“Vinny’s a superhero. He’s always been a scrapper. He’s just not afraid of anything,” David Macaluso told nbc15. “He just chased them. I think he had a low-level growl that, I think, it shocked the coyote,” he added.
Vinny is a rescue dog actually.
His mom and dad took him from a puppy mill, so, at first, he didn’t really know anything.
His owners, who wanted him to feel safe and comfortable around people, taught him how to play, and how not to growl.
Indeed, over the last few years, Vinny’s life next to them is perfect.
At the same time, he recently got a new brother, whom he gets along well with.
But Erin and David had no idea how brave he would be in order to keep the puppy safe.
“It does look like he jumped on him. and he darted this way. And then that gave Harley an opportunity to flip over and run the other way,” Erin Macaluso said.
Although the old pup has just three teeth, with which he cannot even eat a steak anymore, he didn’t feel unable to confront the coyote.
Eventually, Vinny and Harley were safe, and the attacking coyote went away, while little Harley was taken to the vet to take care of him.
“They think that he was bitten three or four times is what the doctor said, and he had a bite on each shoulder,” Erin explained.
Thankfully, the puppy is now fine, while their mom and dad are looking for a superhero cape for Vinny, who saved his brother’s life.
What an amazing pup story!
