A stray dog from Arleta must have sensed who wanted to be play the hero and who just wanted to help.

She refused to get into the cars of the men who pulled over to wrangle off the side of the highway.

Yet she instead immediately lept into the car of cardiac nurse Amber Streid the moment she opened her car door to let her in.

The dog was found racing along the shoulder of the 5 Freeway in Los Angeles, California, during the morning commute.

One man was leaning out of his moving SUV, trying to get the dog to come to him.

Other cars tried to create a blockage and corner the dog with their cars.

The dog was stopped by one of the cars and even ran over to smell one of the driver’s hands.

But about two cars over was Streid, who opened her car door.

“I look to the left of the carpool lane,” said Streid. “I see this little guy running like 10 mph. Opened it and for some reason he went right in. Pretty much she came in, came to the driver’s seat and went to my feet.”

For some reason, the dog immediately trusted Streid who was on her way home from working a 12-hour shift.

The dog also had injuries on her paw, and she was bleeding.

“The couple in the truck started clapping, and the guy in the white van started clapping,” she said. “Happy I was able to get it.”

Streid thought she would have to jump out of the car and run with it so it wouldn’t be scared, but she didn’t have to.

Streid and another motorist wrapped the dog in a towel and put her in the back sweat.

The dog’s hand was bandaged, and thankfully she wasn’t injured further.

What’s even more amazing than Streid heroic act is that her dad watched the entire rescue on TV.

She called her dad to tell him what had happened, and he said, “That was you?!”

It took Steid about 30 minutes to get the dog out of the car because she was so scared.

The dog was later examined by a vet who found that the dog didn’t have a chip.

The Streid family, who have four rescue dogs, planned to take the dog to the shelter to see if its owner was looking for her.

The Streids are taking care of the dog, who they’ve named “Lady Luck” because she’s lucky to be alive until her family is found.

“She doesn’t look worse for the wear and I do think she has an owner. She looks pretty well fed. She’s somebody’s pet,” veterinarian Joan Winter said.

More than 2 million people viewed Lady Luck’s story on Inside Edition’s YouTube page.

“Poor puppy. The way she just hopped right in to the car. Thank you to all the good people who helped save her life,” one YouTube Commenter wrote
