Some people really shouldn’t come anywhere near animals. Nine adorable kittens were found in a parking lot in Florida when they were abandoned and left behind to die by an unknown woman.
Leaving pets and animals behind on the streets is an absolutely terrible idea, especially when there are extreme weather circumstances involved.
It was a sunny day in Florida and the temperature quickly a little bit over a hundred degrees Fahrenheit, and things were even made worse because the nine baby cats were all cramped together in a rather small and completely black container with only a little air passage.
They were minutes away from death – but then workers from the Southeast Volusia Humane Society in New Smyrna Beach noticed something popping out of the container in the parking lot.
“Someone was outside and they had a container in their hands. You could see a kitten’s head popping up from in between the two flaps,” employee Karen Morgan said in an interview with Inside Edition.
When they spotted the black box, they immediately went over to see what was inside. After finding the five-week-old cats, they did everything they could to make them feel more comfortable as most of them were suffering a lot from being stuck in the excruciating heat as if they were being cooked alive.
“I was afraid we were going to lose them,” Karen said. “Their body heat was too much. Some of them were panting.”
The staff of the humane society put the cats on a number of towels to make things a bit cooler for them and let them adjust to the temperature. They also fed the nine kittens with formula as they were possibly underfed, malnourished and clearly neglected.
Luckily, thanks to the quick efforts of the local staff, all of the nine kittens made it out alive and are now flourishing. They’re currently residing and coming to ease with a foster family and will be put up for adoption when they’re ready, according to Karen.
“They are doing super now,” she said. “They are thriving.”
At the moment it remains unclear if there will be any legal repercussions for the woman that left the nine pups behind in the container. Karen also hopes that cowardly acts against animals such as these never occur again.
“There are too many things going on that are detrimental to animals,” she concludes.
The most important thing is that all nine cute kittens recovered one hundred percent. A rescue at just the right time!
