“She is very, very friendly. She loves people. She loves kids,” one the family members said to WTKR.

The seven-year-old American Bulldog had been missing from home ever since the tornado struck the neighborhood. To make things worse, Izzy had a noticeable limp and wasn’t able to move well.

Brandon Liburd was home when the tornado hit Virginia Beach and wanted to check on the damage in the house.

“He immediately went to see the damage and when he saw the damage, he ran out here that’s when he saw that she [Izzy] was gone,” his sister mentioned.

That same night, the channel News 3 aired a piece on the missing Izzy hoping that someone would be able to find the pup.

It didn’t take long before Izzy was in the loving hands of her owners again. Good Samaritan Wes Warstler watched the news and read the article about Izzy, and was certain that he had seen her hiding at the other side of a loose fence.

Immediately, Wes got in touch with the News 3 channel. He did mention that the dog seemed injured and wasn’t sure if he should approach her.

He decided to stay in the area to make sure she didn’t run away and didn’t want to get too close to Izzy in case the pup got scared.

“I wanted to make sure to stay with her until someone came and got here so she could be reunited,” Wes recalls.

In the meantime, News 3 got in touch with Brandon who was delighted to hear Izzy had been found.

“It’s unreal, words can’t describe it,” he said. “They say [a] dog is man’s best friend, but this is like our child and she loves being outside and this is one time where I can say ‘amen’ to that.”

Izzy was finally reunited and Brandon couldn’t thank the Good Samaritan enough.

He praises the entire community for coming together and helping each other after such a horrible event.

“Since the tornado hit it has been camaraderie, everyone looking out for each other and neighbors helping neighbors.”

What a heartwarming reunion story!
